I didn't I say Bowyer wanted him out, I said I believed that may have been an option in bringing the likes of Donaldson & Vaughan to the club (not cheap I would have thought), it sounds logical to me, or are you saying Rupp & Julian over ruled Bowyer by allowing Doyle to go to Swindon ?.

Vaughan isn't playing as a target man, really, most of the time Donaldson has been out we have lumped the ball forward to Vaughan, Christ nearly every other post was saying Vaughan struggled in aerial battles with big hairy arsed central defenders.
Posting our opinions are mostly about who should be playing.

Yes, I am saying that. Bowyer said he didn't want Doyle to go and that he was called in to say Doyle was leaving and the money could be used to get some players in hopefully. He made it clear he didn't want him to leave.

As for Vaughan being a target man. That's just Bowyer's tactics having up against 2 centre backs on his own and Vaughan hardly being in the box.

Can't believe we are using words like lumped for a promotion chasing team. Deary me. Like has been mentioned our Midfield is up there with the best in the league but the Manager thinks it's a good idea to bypass them and play to a forward who isn't a target man. Really feel for Vaughan, built a career out making a nuisance out of himself in the box and the manager wants him deep to take the challenges from the Centre halves? Baffling.

As long as the end result is promotion fans can call it what they want, I agree Vaughan is not a target man but that is how he has been used with Donaldson out more often than not.
I have a feeling we may see Donaldson back on the bench at least in the coming two weeks, he looks like a player who keeps himself fit, and with our better midfield players getting nearer fitness we could look a different team come the New Year.

Totally disagree that Vaughan has been used as a target man. Yes promotion would be great but for me it has to come by automatic promotion. That has to be the aim of the club.

In terms of us looking a better team. I am not convinced as before the injuries to Donaldson etc we didn't look that great.

Nothing has suggested that we will be a major attacking side this season as Bowyer is too negative.

Donaldson coming back does not necessarily make us a better footballing side but it will certainly give us more options.
Once again if your better players are returning that would suggest we should be a better team all round.
Top three would be great but promotion is the aim, I don't think there will be many fans complaining if we are in league one next season and we did not achieve it through the auto's, it is certainly a possibility but not a necessity.

Got to be top 3 for me, don't fancy trailing to Wembley to watch a Bowyer led side trying to defend a 0 - 0....!!

    Fordy,
Whilst I agree Vaughan is not a "Natural" target man, however in the absence of Clayton Donaldson imo he has been played as the "Go to man" in recent weeks. Whilst the current situation is not ideal i think he does win his fair share of headers aka the goal last week at Macclesfield.

Can you see us having enough firepower to win a two legged affair and a playoff final under Bowyer? I'm picturing Parkinson at Millwall, huff and puff but no quality or goals if we fall behind. Auto's is a must.

That's an attacking header in the box where he should be used. Getting the ball launched with his back to goal is a completely different header and skill. The midfielders we have he shouldn't have to compete for percentage balls and wrestling away for a touch of the ball. I don't want to see Vaughan involved in the game unless in and around the 18 yard box.

This the club and fans need to start setting some standards of it will fall away and we can't keep blaming Edin.

Top 3 has to be the standards set! We fail for me this season even if we finish in the playoffs and I agree not a change I would want to risk being in the play offs with Bowyer as manager.

Many things could change for the better before then, were 7th in the league game in hand apart from Cheltenham we've matched most teams with far from our strongest side out, and if it had not been for a rush of blood to BRE head we would have got a point from there.

And if we fail to go up through the auto's but do get promotion through the play off's it wont be the same end product, league one football.

What we dont seem to do much of is get behind defences, not the striker so much as runners from central midfield and using the pace on the flanks, thinking of Zeli and Connolly and Pritchard(although he is not quick, more quick-witted).

That can change when some of the others get fully fit and Bowyer finds a place for them.
Wood is developing nicely on the left so we just need someone on the right for balance if the manager wants to keep with a back three and two up top, or at least closer together.

Devitt could be the game changer for us and does McCartan offer zilch even as a sub?

    TGM,
Perhaps I did not make my point clear, I agree the main strength of James Vaughan's game is in the penalty area, unfortunately because of the absence of Clayton Donaldson someone in the BCFC set up has to take up the role of "Leading from the front"

Presumably GB sees James Vaughan as his most experienced of the available front players and along with being the club captain it has fallen on his shoulders to fulfil that short term role. Clearly the sooner Clayton Donaldson returns to the team it will release Vaughan to play his natural game in and around the penalty area.

Doyle has played well for a couple of managers- Paul Cook at Sligo and Chesterfield, and Richie Wellens at Oldham and Swindon.
If you ask fans at Hibs, Cardiff, Preston or Portsmouth they will probably say his goal scoring record for a striker was below average.

Football is a business and targets have to be set. Do you think the likes of Leeds & Ipswich are thinking play offs. No automatic! Swindon will also no be thinking automatic.

If fans just accept rubbish then they will get rubbish.

Yes, if the second prize is going up in the play off's the we will take it but I see no reason why we wouldn't make the automatic spots.
