He wasn't last season - he was very poor.

We had some decent players last season, but neither Wood or Doyle counted - that's why 'consecutive managers' would play anyone instead of Wood.

Doyle scored 11 goals last year, none of our current crop are even half way to that total yet despite us winning games and being at the correct end of the table this term.

Given the way he was flogged and completely misused, I'd say Doyle's output means he counted more than most last term.

    Why isnt there this option?

1 - We sell him in Jan (not to swindon) but to a good league 1 team who want him on a 2.5yr contract

2 - the money we get we use to pay his wages & loan him back to us for the rest of the season as he can only play for us or swindon

3 - the team who bought him has secured a great striker for start of next season, for a great price & some of the money they put up even goes back to them as we pay his wages until end of the season

that scenario is technically possible right?

    * re all these claims that doyle doesnt wanna come back / wont wanna come back blah blah... we could easily say, we have paid your wages for 2 years, you didnt score, we got relegated. Now Do your job and play football & repay those wages in some goals, goodnight god bless

Yes, it is technically possible. Doyle could be registered with 3 different teams (us, Swindon and whoever decided to buy him) so long as he only played for two. Whether anybody would do this is questionable when the mystery club could wait until the summer and recruit him on a free.

Don’t understand that one. Why not just recall him, play him and pay him. Simple.

No club, especially a lower league club, will pay money for a player and then be willing not to play him..

Then, of course, Doyle has a say if he wants to go to another club. Plus, any fee paid, Doyle could reasonably expect as a signing on fee if he waited to become a free agent.

Lower league club sign a player and allow him to complete his term with Bradford City. You just read it here..... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47080624

Different scenario though to Doyle. Barnsley signed a 20 year old with time to progress, who had 18 months left on his deal at Middlesbrough and they could have him out on loan still to try develop with a team he's been playing with all season. Unlike Doyle, who can be signed by anyone on a free in 6 months time and the chances of someone spending money on a player who will be 32 by the time they can use him, is very slim.

I bet he wished he signed for another club than skint Swindon. They would have snapped him up by now on a permy transfer or at least in January............ 20 goal striker at is age 250 k at least

I accept the point you make. However I replied to the ‘absolute’ comment he made in his second sentence. Each and every case will be slightly different, l completely acknowledge that.

Swindon will find the money to buy him in January. He won't be coming back here.

Well if that's the case Bradford City have been played.

However, why would Doyle join them when he can walk on a free in 6 months and make more money and join a better club.

The Ginger Pele :sob: will be 32 in the summer, I could be wrong, but I doubt he'll get a big money move. I'd guess he'll go to another League 2 club and score for fun. Or join Swindon for a free in the hope that he's scored enough to get them promoted.

He's leading goal scorer in Div 2. A club that comes down from div 1 like a Bolton might want to get him.

Think he would be better waiting. He's in a great situation don't think he would be rushing to join anyone.

Unfortunately @Swindon@Swindon once some of our fans get it into their minds because he struggled in a very poor Bradford City side last season and only scored 11 goals (something none of our present strikers look like achieving this season with far better players around them) its automatically acknowledged by them that he if he returns he wont be a success, and certainly won't continue scoring certainly not in the same vain as he is doing at Swindon, that would be hard and IMO totally unreasonable to expect.
Unfortunately given our present situation striker wise we need to bring him back, we have Donaldson out until possibly the New Year its a brainer, we have a young kid from QPR who we expect to take over from a player with a 15 year career at various levels within the game.

Strikers who score goals at the rate he is this year are almost impossible to find at this level and if you have one they are taken off of you by the bigger terms.
Recall him in January, the first of January and have done. If it costs us and we go over budget, so be it. But if he gets another 10-15 goals with us to end of the season then we will be in the top 3. That’s all that matters. Vaughan hasn’t pulled up any trees and seems to rely on being with someone else. If he was dropped for Doyle I’d have no arguments currently.

Doyle wasn’t great last year but who was? Let’s forget it and do best for us now. January first he comes back. Swindon want him they pay money for him. End of. They are top because of Doyle’s goals. We need them

    Bolton have money now.

Point is he's a proven goalscorer in div 2. Lots of teams will want him in div 2 and teams that come down from div 1.

Bradford City will be utterly foolish to sell him to Swindon when he could get us up to div 1 rather than them.

So you're agreeing with me that it would be a League 2 club he'd go to.

Either way in the summer he's without a club whether he gets us or Swindon promoted or neither.

With the "style" of football we play, swapping vaughan for doyle would yield the same if not worse attacking results than we've got now.
