Fair enough ............ Yet I wondered at the suggested date, and why ?

 

Purely in football terms I think Robinson is the better bet.

 

Can we afford to keep bringing in ‘senior’ players though? Surely there has to come a point when we look at the balance between seasoned pros and kids with potential?

 

I wonder if he is on bail and has to answer it on that day whilst being confident that he will be told "NFA" or similar. But yes, have always said with the length of time this has taken I do not see any reason why he cannot fully participate in training even if the club do not wish to utilise him in matches. I know he was suspended by the club but surely when they did that they did not realise how long it would drag out and could have been rescinded to allow him to train.

 

It will probably be a cps/police thing. That’s the date they will know more by. Budget cuts and the like, sadly for everyone involved these things take a long time. Far too long for victims but that’s where we are

 

Doyle, Akpan, Riley. I think at least a couple will be moved on....

 

I'd be happy with players such as Vaughan,POC, Donaldson, Mellor and Scannel in our squad if we were after promotion from league 1 never mind league 2. A few more quality additions and we'd look very strong.

Shout out to Rupp too. no chance has the income from season tickets alone funded the likes of Vaughan etc.

Vaughan is a terrific signing for us at this level. Now we just need that left winger and central midfielder who can create some chances for him and we'll be all set.

 

if by some miracle we sign Joe Ledley I'm going big in the bookies on promotion.

 

I don't think they realised what they were walking into. Money didn't seem to be an obstacle since Edin had the company credit card. I'm guessing after a week or two training with Drury and Collins that alarm bells started to ring.

As things are going, I don't see me being out of pocket.

 

But they still signed for a Chairman (Dangermouse) and his side-kick (Penfold), without knowing who would manage/coach them. That’s my point.

So there is no guarantee that these lads are signing for Bowyer and not the club/package. Although we’d all like and hope it to be the firmer

 

He is still contracted but as he is suspended by the club he can not take part in any work

 

You're right in the fact there is no guarantee. And in this day and age players always come out with sound bites about loving the manager/club. I just get the feeling that Bowyer has been a mitigating factor in why most of the signings have come here. The players seem to have a genuine like for him.

 

I may punt on Vaughan for golden boot, but as things stand we're still a little suspect in midfield, and in the wide areas.

if we add Ledley (or a more realistic option that has some ability), and either keep Scannell, or add a good winger I'm confident. we've got the look of a decent squad.

I'm sure you're right Al. It's hard to imagine what a bunch of seasoned professionals, with a lot of previous clubs between them, must have made of last year's disastrous pre-season. They'll have been promised all sorts of delusional pipe dreams by Rahic only to find out they'd been suckered into appearing on Amateur Hour.
I think it's hard to overestimate how much the shambolic pre-season set the tone for the poor fitness, organisation and morale throughout the season.
