True. I know what you are saying. He’s quite young though so you can’t necessarily say that’s his life. Kind of born into it. Plus like most of us would probably admit tootling around doing nothing quickly gets boring

Thanks for the ISBN number, Rod, it would have been almost impossible to find the book without it using only the title and the author for reference.

Back then i guess, given the name of club, the search for a suitable plot was confined to the Manningham area. Plus land prices were high as Manningham was still a wealthy suburb.
Now land is cheaper. The potentail catchment is bigger. Even if there wasn’t a suitable brown field site, there are plenty of derilict buildings in the Bradford area that could be CPO’d and cleared. The clowncil could spin it as ‘regeneration’

Just like you have with Bradford.
Tell me an investor currently investing in Bradford Jon? Then look 10 miles to the east. And then give me a list of companies investing. Not as rubbish as you think.

Odsal. But it needs 10's of £££millions spent on it. Not going to happen.

I used to think that but then I see some of the biggest shitholes in the country being taken over by billionaires.

Very very few companies are investing in quality jobs in Bradford. If you want a well educated work force you’re going to Leeds. Bradford is a dying city, its main industry has gone, skilled jobs have gone and it’s living in Leeds’ shadow and that’s not changing.

The football club mirrors this, it is in a city with less and less interest in football, that’s not going to change. It would be interesting to see a map of where season ticket holders live, very very few within a mile or two of the ground I’m certain. And those of us who have moved away, our children are less likely to be die hard City fans. Why would you invest in buying a club with a likely dwindling fan base in a dead city?

Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley. All had relatively successful clubs and not the most salubrious of towns.

Please evidence, in real terms, your findings regarding investment made in Leeds compared to Bradford. A ratio or percentage would be the most useful to see the exact difference.

Meanwhile, @Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart I think misunderstood you, I thought you meant specifically re: football. As we all know, in football the city itself and the supposed shithole nature makes zero difference to foreign or major investment.

Blackburn, bankrolled to the PL title nearly a quarter of a century ago by a local lad, sank in to league one and have cost Venkys over a hundred million. Bolton have a real chance of being wound up this week if they’re not sold and are about to be relegated. Burnley have been well managed and are an exception I grant you that.

Football is gravitating to the South and to the NW. Half of Sunderland’s problems were having to pay players way over the odds to get them to move there. It’s a lot easier to convince a player to move to Bournemouth or Southampton than Middlesbrough or Hull.

It does because big companies and individuals don’t want to be associated with the city because of its reputation.

Open your eyes and look at Leeds, they’re spending £160m on the Station roof, half a billion will be spent to get it ready for HS2, First Direct Arena, the new shopping centre, £7bn of building projects underway, HMRC moving there from Bradford, houses cost 60% more on average, the average wage in Leeds is 17% higher than Bradford. Channel 4 is moving to Leeds.

Self evident one of the reasons there is no investment anywhere in the city.
