To be fair, his number of games isn't much less than Caddis when he joined and that turned out ok.

Just looking into Woods' versatility a bit more. Looks like he played left back for Huddersfield in the 2012 League One play off final and could have played left back for Preston in the 2015 final as well. So it looks as though he's more than capable of solving our left back problems.

 

Can play as a winger or up front. Hopkin loves these versatile players doesn't he. Mind you, he will probably play him left back!

 

Do you recall when I said Hopkin would sign 2 defenders this window and you found the idea laughable?

Caddis to central midfield. Nailed on.

 

Yep. Woods to solve our midfield problem by signing. Caddis shifts to the centre, despite being far and away our most consistent player in his favoured right back position.
All we need now, is a new left back, so Chicksen can shift upwards onto the wing.

 

And a big strapping centre half to play as a target man up front.

 

To be fair, Woods can play at left back. He won't add much going forward, but neither does Chicksen. If he can be solid on the left like Caddis is on the right, its an improvement. Nowhere near as good as one of the left backs we asked after, but hey ho.

Still need a CM, Striker and probably a left winger.

 

Looks like we will hope he can discover his old form by shoehorning him into the left back slot.

We seem to have an eye for right backs but can’t sign a natural left back

 

Not certain we can attract the likes of Luke Shaw, so unsurprisingly a lower L1 club will have to settle for an our of favour Championship player

Also, we or the Southend fans could have said the same about Stephen Humphrys, when he signed for them on Saturday morning. And he'd actually failed in L1 previously

 

Slightly off-piste but when is Mellor due back? He'd help a bit.

Agree with Woods. Any half decent player is essential right now. We're not after top end L1 quality - we need some players who will strengthen the squad and give us other options

With Scannell coming back soon (yes, I know it's a risk relying on him) I think the priority is CM and a striker. On the other hand if Hopkin is going to go for a Hanson type CF then we do need a winger

 

Anytime as he was supposedly nearly 'ready' for the Southend match

 

Think Mellor was impressive in that advanced role as part of the midfield three before Christmas and provided an outlet for the long ball forward. Could be key on his return, especially if were struggling to secure the target man we need.

The impression from Preston fans on Woods is that hes comfortable with both feet and just needs a run of games. We need to stop leaking goals and crumbling when we concede first, someone like Woods could help towards that rather than worrying about needing an attacking left back. Being where we are, a player struggling to get in a Championship side and has had success with both clubs hes played for at this level is as good as we can hope for I'd imagine.

I'm hopeful Scannell hits the ground running and benefits from McElhone's work. If we had him coming off the bench as an impact player it could preserve his fitness and maximise his impact. Scannell needs to show his worth.

Wait a min - wasn't the madness that is playing a CB as a forward - recently employed by Collinns usings NKP just a few months ago?

 

I thought it was McCall in one of his last games in charge? Can remember thinking this is probably going to be the nail in his coffin.

 

I know money's too tight to mention, but surely we don't have to gamble with a player's fitness issues.
