This is a really,really good signing for the club and all you can do is MOAN MOAN MOAN

 

This looks like the vital link but probably too late for this team :-( When you think that a lot of the signing s looked gopd on paper but then were unfit plus a .ong standing problem of picking up costly injuries then with the right person in this role not only could this season have been a different story but it might have made that marginal difference in the past few seasons.

So, Hoppy wasn't waiting on an old buddy to come down and join his staff.

Fair play to him and i hope he can get Caddis/Henry and Jim O'Brien fully fit asap please.

Looking forward to seeing if he can make a difference with this squad we have and the others to arrive shortly.

 

I think 'on paper' it looks a good appointment. Knows fitness stuff and sports science as well as being a UEFA A Coach so can cover off a couple of roles...

Agree. I kind of see Hopkin as the old school management type (I don’t know this for sure). I like to think if premiership clubs send out players on loan these are the types of appointments which will aid that

 

I can’t ever remember a time when you *didn’t* say any of our managers were tactically clueless.

 

hopefully this will work out to be a good appointment. due to the limited finances in the lower leagues - like a first team squad, a backroom team needs people who can perform various roles to a high standard.

the fact that he has his A-licence and also is an expert in the fitness and physiological side of the game means that he can work to a spec where he can improve fitness levels whilst doing this through football specific fitness training methods.

the game has moved so far on in the last 20 years that it’s no longer ok just to be fit, but players need to be ‘football fit’. we’ve been lagging behind in this aspect for years and there’s only been nick allamby who tried to address this.

when robinson signed he said he couldn’t believe how much running we did in pre-season, rather than football specific fitness sessions. arsenal under wenger were the first club in the country to change from doing long training sessions to intense 45-60min training sessions as wenger brought a new philosophy that there was no point in players training for two hours straight when a half only lasts 45mins. work players to almost peak intensity for 45min sessions and the anaerobic system improves to a level where recovery is quicker and players become ‘football fitter.’ do this through ball work and players will love it even more.
