I love the comments here. I can't imagine any of you have heard of him before yet you're all experts on his strengths and weaknesses!

 

This is a guy who has worked with the best, at the very highest level for over a decade endureing that the players perform and develop to the very best of their ability. What’s to moan about? On paper he looks an unbelievable addition for a league 1 side.

This is a guy with a lot of experience.

You were all moaning that you want Hopkin to make decisions on his own staff and his own players. Well now he's decided! So stop moaning and let's see how he gets on.

 

This all sounds good to me, we most certainly need this kind of experience. We have massively missed this type of professional ever since Parky left.

 

We call ourselves supporters of Bradford City so lets support this appointment . Seems a good choice to me.

 

His job title is irrelevant, not sure why people seem so bothered by it, it's his skill-set and what he can bring to the coaching setup that matter.

 

Looks a good appointment.

If he's number two, surely it's because the title was needed to attract him to Bradford.

If he's number two, also, presumably Hopkin assumes he can (alongside others) coach the team to a very competitive level. He alludes to the fact he and Drury are doing everything at the moment; if McElhone compliments the pair of them, two more football-focused coaches, then great.

It's clear we had a massive, gaping hole in terms of fitness coaching, so again, to bring in the best possible fitness coach is excellent. Maybe Drury will have equal say during games; maybe McElhone is an expert himself. Who knows.

Tough one to analyse.

Hope we bring in a goalkeeping coach soon, though, as that's a specialist area and to be honest, another coach wouldn't go amiss either.

Sounds decent to me. good experience, and well thought of by all accounts.

I don't care if he's the assistant, or the fitness coach or what he is. he's coming and he's helping out Hopkin. that'll do for me.

 

A number 2 needs to be whoever and whatever the manager wants. If Hopkin has brought him in as his number 2 as someone that can additionally offer his other skills experience and attributes then I would argue it is a good appointment. Only time will tell though

When is a certain poster going to come on and say Edin had this lined up weeks ago but they just had to sort a few things out. This is fact I was told straight from the horses mouth.....

 

How do you know its poor? What evidence are you basing this on?

That’s like saying Eddie Howe was a poor appointment for Bournemouth as manager all those years ago, just cause he’d never done the job.

Have you ever worked in management Fordy?? I bloody hope not as I imagine your staff would lack serious motivation.. “you’re not ever going to progress you’ve no experience “

Probably went to the US to expand his skills, worked for Brad Friedel who he possibly knew from Spurs. MLS season is over and wants a new challenge, maybe he has family considerations.
All speculation on my part BTW, but looks like an ambitous appointment.

 

Nah, if he was an old school manager type he wouldn't have made an appointment like this. He'd have just rung someone he goes drinking with, or used to when they played somewhere together.

 

I think this is a great appointment and about time too.
Most on here seem to be happy with the appointment, with the exception of the usual one.
Look forward for things to be on the up from now onwards.
