    Spot on.

If the offer isn't worth the sale and the hassle of finding a replacement, don't sell.

You said it in far fewer words than me!

At the time, a lot more than the 250k we payed for him. Under normal circumstances we wouldn't be able to bring in a player who had scored 20 odd goals in half a season for 250k, especially in January where clubs want to hold onto their best players. His market value right now? I'm not too sure tbh. Out of his 15 league goals, 3 were in one game and 3 were penalties. It's not exactly spectacular but he still has a more than respectable record taking into consideration the amount of chances we create. If someone offered us 500k we should take it imo

I don't necessarily disagree @banbrotam@banbrotam, but without an extended contract that would be a big gamble don't you think, running his contract down ?.

Like your post, but think your valuation is too low.

I don't understand why the market should dictate his value.

We, as a club, should determine that.

That's how Peterborough make millions on mediocre accomplishments, why are we so scared of it?

If we're running based off of our income, we don't actually need a big sale or cup run.

Since there's no financial threat, it makes more sense to have him for 12 months and let him walk than it does sell him and wind up with Dom and Shay up front.

We're more likely to go up with him than without him.

I'm not sure these (we live within our means owners) would agree but yes I was very much in favour of doing the same with Wells, trouble was with Well he looked like he'd thrown his dummy out of the pram, would he have cried off every time he was selected, Charlie doesn't look that type of player but who knows until push comes to shove.

If we want to sell him, he'll go for whatever other clubs are willing to pay for him. There's no point putting a £1M price tag if nobody else is willing to pay it. If the clubs interested think our valuation is unreasonable, they'll walk away and look elsewhere.

Exactly, if we WANT to sell, we'll take what ever is offered.

If we don't want to sell, we let them walk away and keep our top striker.

What if he wants to leave and we don't want to sell? Then we're left with a player who doesn't want to play, potentially disrupts the harmony of the squad (situation which could have happened with Tony), and will have to sell at a knock down price. IF we get Grayson, then I think he's the sort of manager that won't pick a player that doesn't want to be here. Worse case scenario, CW puts in a transfer request, which decreases his market value, and we get less for him than we hope.

If he wants to leave, we should sell.

That doesn't seem to be the case.

You always have to accept a bit less for a player that won't want to play for you.

Can't see that happening, though. He wasn't crying about potentially staying at Carlisle, and he hasn't struck me as a prima donna here either.

As van Dyke did at Southampton. If he doesn't want to be here we need to sell this summer and use the money, if he does want to be here then he has to sign a new contract this summer. I suspect some of that decision will be based around whether his bum chum stays as well.

Not too fussed if we sell Wyke - £1m if we can get that would be good business. Decent player, nips in with a few goals but he isn't prolific.

Matt Godden at Stevenage is out of contract this summer. Talk of £1.5m bids just 12 months ago....not had the best of seasons but he is a decent age at 26, knocked in a few goals at L2 level and wouldn't cost a penny.

Would take him as a 2nd striker or a Wyke backup. Not as a replacement

I’m still interested in who is doing our scouting for us now Greg’s away. It’s a side of the club we don’t hear much about.

Greg said before he went in for his operation he had created a list of possible targets.

SG probably ripped that list up. I hope Greg is on the road to recovery but i don't think SG, if he stops, will keep him around. He'll pick HIS players, make HIS list and probably sort his own scout network.

I wouldn't disagree with any of that, and if it does happen then maybe I'll start having a little more belif in our owners.

Gregs list comprised of Mellor, Dennis and Taylor who are all able for zilch in the summer. Be interesting to see if we go back in for them. We wanted Dennis, he wanted us - we all know it ended there so I cannot see anything changing in just a few short months - apart from SG.

I would like to see us have another go for Jorge Grant at Notts County/Forest.

I personally wasn't bothered either way whether Larry stayed or not. We need someone who is a good coach and is commited to both the first team and the development squad. Arsene for a couple of years anyone? :p

I hope Abbo is recovering OK and I think he won't be so incapacitated that he won't be getting involved from home in signings and departures. I know there are Marmite feelings about him but on balance he's done OK and can't be blamed for the catastrophic last part of the season. Others will point at the January transfer window as a disaster but McGowan looked really good until his injury, Kai looked completely out of place but has really improved, Callum Guy has done well as has Warnock and Matty Lund looks a good player now after his injury. The collapse of the Kristian Dennis signing was a complete farce but Chesterfield have to take a lot of blame here.

The decline all started at Yeovil IMO, the team thought they only had to turn up to win against a struggling team with a whole bunch of young new signings signed in the week leading up to the game. Confidence was seriously rocked by the unexpected defeat. Obviously young Hendrie going to Shrewsbury didn't help either. I hope we go after Jordan Green from Yeovil, very skilful, very quick so can run direct at defenders and has a great engine to boot. He was outstanding against us and did well against Man Utd in the next round.

On players, unless we have a first preference on re-signing Gibson we should get him tied on a 2 year deal pronto, we have signed some very good young players in the last year and I am wholly in favour of continuing with this experiment

It's difficult but I would let Vince, Rouven, Law, Raeder, Jones & Poleon go but keep one of Dieng or NKP. I don't like McMahon but would keep him purely for his experience and nous. Depending on who does actually leave I don't personally think we need a huge changeover of outfield players. My big request would be for one or two leaders on and off the pitch to show the existing bunch by example how to deal with difficult situations, don't care which position they fill. We showed up to January that we knew how to get games across the line. I'd like Mattie Lund back and Callum Guy but this one is unlikely.

As things stand I can't see us threatening the playoffs next season but I also can't see us struggling to stay in the division. CTID!
