Fair assessment but I think Taylor was a decent signing - nobody can be held accountable for how it ended. I would also say there isn't a lot of difference between Billy Clarke and Shay McCartan - goals to games ratio about the same.. The rest, yes we have missed and were not replaced adequately.

A striker is a must, a decent winger, a goal scoring centre midfielder and a proper left back. I wouldnt mind another CB either. Those would be my priority then add a few more to make up the numbers.

 

Clarke is in a different league to McCartan. Clarke's technique and link up play are far better. There's a reason if Clarke was fit, he played, under both Parky and Stuart.

 

Taylor was a risk that was worth taking bearing in mind our limited resources. Unfortunately there was a reason he doesn't hang around club that long and we found that out. Shame because there is a decent player there as other clubs have shown with the money they forked out for him. I got the impression McCartan was a replacement for Clarke but they seem totally different players. McCartan looks more of a head down run at goal type of player rather than a creative type like Clarke. Has to play upfront if we are to see any sort of improvement out of him. Your goals to games ratio remark will end up the same next season IMO, we don't have the quality throughout the side to be a prolific scoring side, soemthing you usually only see with the teams with the bigger budgets such as Wigan and Blackburn this season and the likes of Sheffield Utd, Wolves and Bristol City in recent seasons. Like i mentioned it all depends who we bring in. Some players who looked poor this season suddenly look like different players when alongside new players, Law and Meredith spring to mind from last season, take away Meredith and his overlapping runs and Law looks a poorer player for it.
An interesting summer of recruitment awaits.

Doyle is back on the Republic of Ireland radar. Why would he sign a new contract at a league one club? Surely there'll be some Championship clubs asking him what he's looking for.

 

He needs to play regularly though.

 

I'm not sure Doyle is championship level. His distribution isn't good enough

 

But it doesn’t matter if “Grayson seems to like (him)”, McMahon has wanted away twice already. So why would he be happy to stay now?

Get money for Wyke who doesn’t look like he wants to stay and can probably earn more elsewhere. Reshape & rebuild. REINVEST.
Action will speak louder than words.
If the board are inactive and we have poor on the cheap recruitment then this will get ugly quickly. This summer is a tipping point for this board. If they think ST Sales were poor this time then think again if we have a repeat of what happened this season. Their investment will wither. They need to invest or get out.

I’ll drive NKP, Dieng and Vince anywhere they want to go. Far too inconsistent and whose form has gone backwards, alarmingly in Vinces case. The rest are bang average, too small and weak.

I’d like to see the focus on athleticism, similar to the Parky sides who bullied sides on the pitch and were fit enough to last beyond 90 minutes. We had a side with the majority of 6ft plus players back then, compared to the diminutive players we see now.

I think Chicksen is pretty average. Is he out of contract? If so, ship him out. NKP sadly too. So much promise at the start of the season. It’s quite spectacular how his wheels have fallen off, along with Vince.

 

You seriously think we need to get rid of 20+ players and bring 20+ in? Don't forget there are 4 loans leaving that will need replacing too.

I have no issue with players like Chickson, Dieng, Devine, Reeves, Jones etc staying if we can find suitable players for the first XI. We need a squad and players like that are ok as back up and to fill in when needed.

 

I think some of you need to learn what a Retained List means. Some of you have just gone through the entire squad picking and choosing who you want to keep. That isn’t how this works.

You’re only supposed to be looking at those out of contract as it isn’t as easy as clicking your fingers and X, Y and Z move on too. Remember, if you think they are crap, it doesn’t matter where you’d “be happy to drive them”, what’s to say another club would want them?

Or are you suggesting we use some of our small budget to pay off players from their contracts?

 

Agree - but remember, Simon also said that the whole squad needs a complete overhall. It's not just us thinking the majority of our players are crap

 

The rest can go. Doesn’t mean we will be able the engineer moves for them. I’m talking ideologically. Agree that some may be hard to shift. Even harder will be recruiting. Given the shenanigans this year who will want to sign. I don’t think our board will benefit from many glowing references. Even If they are prepared to offer parity when competing with others for signatures,players talk. I fear that summer recruitment will be difficult and we may end up with names who others do not want rather than our preferred choices.
