Well Poleon wasn't exactly brimming with joy. He was pleasant enough with everybody and put up with some good natured stick from us Shippers, who sponsor him. Romain was less animated than last year. He told me his knee is a bit troublesome at the moment. He got the award for community work and in his speech said he is settled in the area so presumably wants to stay at the club. It seemed to me he is a bit downcast at losing the captaincy.

Vince, Poleon etc know they severely dropped the ball. It was Vince's job to lead on the pitch not run down the tunnel first, when we got stuffed at Blackpool

 

Wyke may well leave in the summer, but the question is too who? For me he isn't as effective when playing the lone striker role, a formation a fair few teams now play so they can have 3 in midfield. The level above is also played at a higher tempo, with his lack of pace I think he may struggle to make the step up dependent on team. Now price, you'd think the owners would want a good return on their investment, £500k minimum? I'd say most championship clubs won't take the risk on someone unproven at that who is now 25, the only teams I can think of who may are Burton/Bolton/Barnsley dependent on who stay up and maybe a Sheffield United who aren't big spenders at that level. He had no bids for him in January, it could easily happen again, with all this in mind I doubt he'd mucky his ticket by blabbing to a random fan at an awards do.

Back to reality, he's the ONLY class striker we have. The same one who's scored 15 goals in a very poor side AND missed games in the season....not a bad return i think.

Better team around him, more goals...simple.

His Union the PFA were called in and allegedly found in favour of the club and they didn't pursue it further.
All in all its been petty on all side's , from the outwards looking in.
TBH he looked shiiiite Jan/Feb/Mar but he wasn't alone. They pretty much downed tools as a group and that leaves a bitter pill in my mouth.

 

I can't disagree that effort levels were not anywhere near the required and expected level but to single out Wyke is crazy talk.

He's one of the few in the squad capable of the performances required for a promotion chasing side and far from shipping him out we should be building the team around him.

Put it this way, if we had a player of Charlie Wyke's ability in every position we'd absolutely piss this league.

 

Unfortunately until he's offered a contract extension and signs it our manager will have to build a team not knowing if he will be here longer term or not, lets give him a decent rise and another 2 years and then as you say start the building blocks around the likes of Wyke.

 

He has Been better later but he still won’t fetch half as much as some think on here

Trying to remember SM’s speech last year but didn’t he rib Vince for being half-cut? Maybe that’s why he wasn’t as animated, or, could it be a bit of humility for realising they’ve ballsed up this season!

 

We were sat with Shay who came across excellently and was quite open and honest when asked questions & Reeves was very approachable said he actually has had 2 injuries one being the groin and a hernia and he’s been playing with them for 2 seasons.. it got to the point that he was only training Thursday so he could play as therewas no one else fit.
