Ukraine crisis: Fifa to suspend Russia as IOC calls for athletes' suspension - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/60560567

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/28/what-sanctions-imposed-on-russia-over-ukraine-invasion-putin?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

It seems that Putin has seriously underestimated the unity and resolve of the rest of the world. Russia has very quickly been turned into a pariah state. The banking and other financial sanctions will cripple their economy and they are going to be frozen out of all sporting and cultural links with the rest of the world. The latter may seem trivial, in the scheme of things, but will have a dispiriting impact on a population that is going to suffer from Putin's madness in many other ways.

There were unofficial reports that Belorussian soldiers were already helping Russia as early as Thursday which weren’t confirmed but is probably true, you fight Russia you fight them both. Their leader is another nutter, of it gets to the stage where things get nuclear then I just hope China can either stop them before they press the button or leave them to their demise when America wipe them out. What a sorry state of affairs.

What sort of outcome can be agreed, Putin's says sorry for your dead and damaged infrastructure, we'll pull our troops out and won't bother you again, the world have to make an example of Russia and their leaders, or China might think they can bully the world and take the likes of Taiwan.
No one knew how the world would react knowing Putin is unstable but the way most have acted banning Russian planes their aerospace, making it very difficult for their economy to continue without it having a massive effect on them, rubble down over 30% against the Dollar with regards the sanctions being applied, restrictions on access for some Russian banks to the SWIFT global bank payments system, banning them from football completions etc.
Lets hope our government have learnt lessons from this and clamp down on all dodgy money coming into the UK be it from Russia, China, or the Middle East.

Better give them some Viagra then as they’re still the richest and most powerful nation along with China, Russia aren’t anywhere near their levels.

Agreed. Agent Trump was (and is) one of Russia's useful idiots, but they must be rather disappointed in him. In the long run, less useful and more of an idiot than they wanted! You just can't get the help these days...

Just watching BBC News. Full screen view of Putin, he seems to have developed "moonface" .... My ex wife got this when she was prescribed strong steroids for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
I'm not suggesting he has RA rather that he is suffering from something requiring the use of steroids.

Zelensky going in to negotiations demanding Crimea back, as well as the Donbas. Then being pictured signing an application to join the EU. Badass.

Yes, Should be Zelensky plan for war, The ex TV actor played the President of Ukraine in a popular TV show and then used his popularity to become the actual President, up to encouraging a conflict with Russia he was losing popularity fast due to false promises like cleaning up corruption and finance while he and his close friends hid huge amounts of money away abroad and claiming he wanted peace in Donbass while secretly funding the Ukrainian army to fight, and signing a peace agreement he had no intention of applying (Minsk). He is a very dangerous man who knows how to manipulate people and situations after his TV training, No one forgives Putin for his invasion of Ukraine which is wrong but there needs to be balance against a man every bit ambitious and dangerous as Putin

To be honest characterising leaders as poodles of others, especially at times like this lacks nuance and is blinkered. The same was as true of Corbyn as it was of Trump. Especially as Trump was vociferous about the reliance of Germany on Russian gas and the lack of support for NATO from European countries, both of which were definitely "anti-Russia" and also proved 100% correct over time.

    A prime example;

That's not to say that I think Trump would have dealt with this any better. He'd certainly have dealt with it differently. In his dealings with North Korea he seemed to understand that the nuclear deterrent worked both ways where currently it seems that Putin is the only one willing to use that deterrent.

Now whether that's a good thing or a bad thing we will have to see!

With regards Zelensky right up to the actual invasion by Russia he was adamant the west were making a bigger issue than he though it was, he kept repeating Russia would not invade and it was sabre rattling.

The rhetoric seems to have shifted (for the worse) today. Listening to Sky News and their interviews with Govt Ministers and there's a more overt line of questioning challenging whether the UK and other countries should step in militarily, agnostic of NATO membership, on 'moral' grounds, with more and more Hitler/1930s comparisons.

Added to which, Ukraine has now formalised its application to join the EU, and European Parliament session is taking place now, with some of the reps inferring the same 'moral obligation to stop Putin' type narrative.

So after watching needless deaths on both sides of the conflict, what exactly Putins end game here? And what is the west's response? When eventually he takes Ukraine (cos he can't go back after what he's started) what does he expect the rest of the world to do? Can't just shake your hands of it and carry on like nothing has happened. It does seem like Putin has called the bluff of the west and they had no hand to counter him with due to the west being balls deep in the Russian dirty billions.
