I have only watched bits, mainly had it on in the background when I've been doing other things but from what I've seen of the games, USA are a different class. Their speed, power and technique is far and away better than any of the others teams I've seen.

USA certainly look a class act, the winger is giving our left back a torrid time.

We need to calm down. Get the defensive shape back.

    USA look so good.

As soon as I saw the 2 step 'run up' I knew she was doomed to miss, to be brutal Steph was no better than the rest all game, poor slovenly defending was so akin to ours last season...

I can't get into it at all. Its too slow and sterile. But that's probably because I'm comparing it to the men's game rather than looking at it in its own right - Its a sport of its own. Although there seems to be a media agenda to 'force' it on the general public in the sense of putting onto a similar platform as the men's game, which I don't think it will ever reach.

If you watched USA slam Thailand tonight you may change your mind Idle
Although Thai weren't up to much I would put money on the Americans beating our team from last season they were technically better and had the will to win sadly lacking in our team

Doubt I would change my mind Steve. Not many neutrals would enjoy such a mismatch. As for the Americans beating us, no, not having that, no matter how poor we were last season, no women's team would be able to physically compete with a men's professional team

That's being unfair on the conference north. As I mentioned above a couple of years ago the US team which wasn't that different to the team that played yesterday lost 5-2 to the u15's team of Dallas FC. Now the senior MLS teams are hardly the highest quality (There are bit-part players in League1/2 teams that have gone over there and become key players) let alone the u15's. The level is at best schoolboy level

I enjoyed the England v Scotland game and expect to watch a few more matches in this world cup.

As others have pointed out, because of the physical differences, it is somewhat unfair to compare the men's and women's games, better to just treat them as separate sports in their own right, to be enjoyed or not as everyone feels fit.

There is one significant change I would make, however, and that is to convert the 'men's' game to an 'open' one, thus allowing women access to what is currently the men's game. I am not expecting to see women make the Premier League or Football League, certainly not in my lifetime, but they should have the right, should they be good enough.

Let lack of technical ability or physical strength stop them (from playing at Premier League or Football League level), but not gender.

It’s hard to compare but I don’t think a single one of them would last 2 mins in league 2. I’d back most u15 academy sides to beat the women’s national side.

Argentina were a poor side and with the possession we had we should have scored more, the last 10 minutes the English girls killed the game off, but at times it was like watching some of the games under Stuart, I was shouting at the TV "get the ball played forward".

Haha something very similar to me happened last Friday. My female boss asked if I was watching the World Cup tonight I said no the golfs on, then she pointed out if it was the men’s World Cup that I’d watch it. So I got into the debate with her and said I would yes, but that’s because I enjoy the quality of men’s football, I wouldn’t watch a Sunday league match as it’d bore me, and the quality of women’s football is similar level without the physicality. She said so you won’t watch it because it’s women then? I said no I won’t watch it because it’s crap quality and I like watch top quality sport, even Bradford are high quality in comparison. Like you I mentioned potential alterations that could make it better and faster paced similar to what they do in sports like cricket, I pointed out they were trying to compete by the men’s rules when women biologically just don’t have the same physical stature, she said I was being sexist because apparently I don’t think women can do what men can. I do, it’s just in terms of football they can’t do it as well!

Equality of opportunity and Equality of outcome are very, very different things but some people can’t or won’t understand that principle.

    Seriously?
I'm going to assume this is an autospell anomaly because the alternative is too hideous to contemplate.

Just because you're right, doesn't mean you're offended....?

Abbo has explained the context of his post, which I also understood – without him having to explain. Someone getting the wrong end of the stick could be understood, but it’s been explained. That should be the end of it. Its an innocent misunderstanding – but, without aiming anything at anyone, and I’m not saying it’s the case here, it seems like these days people are unwilling to let things lie and accept that they may have misunderstood – their ‘right’ to be offended and to persuade everyone else of their moral high ground. A little bug bear of mine, which probably colours my own approach.

Anyhow, not really wanting to inflame this further, so I’ll step back from this conversation at this point.
