Louis Appere was their front man. Not a giant, but 6'0" tall. Didn't win a single header against Paudie all game. It wasn't as though they played balls into his feet much, so they must presumably think he can head a ball.

Not one player at this club has had anything other than an average season. There are mitigating circumstances of course but to suggest any player has had a good season is simply not true. A different case in point when we were relegated was the form of Lewis O'Brien. Stood out like a sore thumb despite our shambolic season, this time out we don't have that quality of player at the club.

Paudie can head a ball, arguably his greatest asset. Unfortunately he's quite possibly the slowest centre back I've seen at City for some time and his positional sense at times is average league 2 at best, letting players like George Miller get the better of you is not a good sign. He can't work on his pace, that's something he's born with but he would have to work on his passing and game management if he wanted to go up a level.

It’s possible for individuals to stand out in a poor team I think Paudie and Ridalghe are two examples

I actually gave you an example of that in my previous post. However I don't believe anyone this season warrants being anything other than rated as average. Just being consistent does not warrant a decent rating. A lot of this is to do with Derek Adams and his management of the team, but a couple of half decent performances under Adams does not detract the rest of the season.

Some of the comments here are laughable, especially about Paudie. We should be doing everything to keep him at the club. At this level, he is an asset and wouldn't look out of place in League One.

Which comments exactly? Point them out specifically. I'll then comment as to whether your opinions are worthless or not?

He's played on one of the worst defences we've had for a long time.

You're making him sound like Reece Burke.

Considering time-efficiency effects, soccer players may benefit more by performing sprint training regimes similar to the progression model used in strength training and by world leading athletics practitioners, compared to the majority of guidelines that traditionally have been presented in research literature. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/256189721_The_Role_and_Development_of_Sprinting_Speed_in_Soccer

You would think so but he’s no big centre forward. Why they would play to his weakness is beyond my comprehension. He presumably has pace but because the way we sat back made his speed ineffective? ( And presumably nullified their threat?)

Im happy to be laughed at, doesn’t make you right does it , especially going by the number of people supporting your comment perhaps?

L1? And you are laughing at those who think he’s nothing more than average at best in L2!

    Righty Ho.

You can make someone think quicker but you can't make them run quicker, that's just genetics. The human body has individual limits that we are.born with. Same goes with Andy Cook.

Paudie is bang average league 2 defender. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t watch enough football. He’s slow, has terrible positioning and is always on the edge of a red card. He’d do a job at someone like Acrrington or Fleetwood possibly in a relegation scrap but other than that he’s not good enough. He’s easily replaceable and imo we should look to do so. This team stinks of mediocrity and we need a full clear out.

No, Reece Burke is a top end Championship player.

Saying Paudie could get into League One clubs isn't the same as saying 'he's Reece Burke', is it?

It's this ludicrous idea we should expect two more Reece Burke-quality defenders next season that's just bizarre.

People thinking Paudie isn't good enough for League Two are delusional, I'm afraid. You're right, he's played in one of the worst defences we've had in recent years, but he's consistently been the best part of the defence.

If we can get ONE quality centre back in through the door this Summer, it will be mission accomplished in terms of a settled centre back pairing next season.

The last thing we need to be doing is searching for TWO.

All above us and all with more goals conceded. Newport are in the play offs!
The bigger issue for me, is the lack of goals.
I cannot see any value in retaining our 'on loan' strikers or those who's contracts are due to expire. The only one who I may offer an extension to is Angol. However over the last four seasons he has managed a meagre 71 appearances, he is injury prone and sadly we could not depend on him.
Three new strikers and midfielders who actually chip in with 5-8 goals a season are a priority.

    Absolutely a fair point, Rod.

I wouldn't go as far as saying we don't need to improve our defence, because I think we do, but goals scored and chances wasted has crippled us since the first game and should be the main focus over the Summer.

I'm more interested in the pros and cons of whether someone like Charles Vernam, who is wasteful, is worth keeping than Paudie.

For me, Angol is a no, but if Hughes can convince him to stay on something weighted towards a pay-as-you-play deal then why not. If not, and we let him go unfortunately I think it will be 50-50 whether he's playing League Two football or Conference football next season.

It's amazing what confidence does to a players ability. I think Paudie with a strong leader beside him would do well. At the moment he's the main defender but he's not ready for that accolade in my opinion. Vernam might be wasteful at times but his early season performances, with Ridealgh alongside had defenders all over the place. From memory Cook wasted the majority of chances created by him. I'd definitely look to keep him if possible.
If Hughes can recruit strong leaders, added with youth and experience we'll do well.

Whoever he keeps or signs he has to make us the Manchester City equivalent of League Two next season

I'm not convinced that Stefan Rupp sees himself as League 2's equivalent of moneybags Sheikh Mansour!
