You can’t compare a squad with the likes of Campbell, McCall, Jackson and Hendrie in it, and with two internationals in Yorath and Cherry around with the squad of day. There’s not one of today’s lot fit to lace the boots of the 84/85 team.

You’ve got to convince someone to take their contracts over or pay them off. Let’s say we do a bit of both but that’s a couple of hundred grand, then you have to sign six quality players, that’s another big spend.
We apparently maxed out the budget to sign Robinson, a player so valued by Adams he won’t play him when the players are on their arses.
That’s the reality of the club that Stefan Rupp built. There’s no money. A big hike in season ticket prices so you pay for his mistakes over the last five years so that he can sell and get his money back.
There is no white knight arriving in January, this is the future of Bradford City under Rupp. Bargain basement football and hoping to get lucky by getting promoted. The Evidence, Budgie, Briggus and 5 others like this. -

They must have been asleep at the end of August when Derek wanted to bring in another midfielder and a forward to offset the Angol injury and the taps were turned off.
rupp aint helping out, if anything he is looking to help himself get some monies back.

On the negative side, yesterday's performance fully justified what some were saying at the start of the season. The squad isn't good enough! It has little quality in depth; the likes of Scales and Foulds and others aren't first team ready. We are short of striker options and too much pressure is placed on Cook's shoulders. Many of the summer's recruits aren't promotion material or can't be relied on to play enough games. Match preparation leaves a lot to be desired and shuffling the conditioning and analysis team as we did by giving most of the old team new roles wasn't good enough. We need fresh thinking.
The overall picture is that Adams doesn't have the players at his disposal to change things when the dynamics of the game change. Yesterday he was seriously hampered in not being able to bring good enough fresh legs on when key individuals were simply knackered.
There is a lot of pressure now on Adams and Sparks to bring some more quality in in January. It's needed if we are to have any hope of turning things around and mounting a serious promotion challenge. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening and we look like a squad finishing in the top half but outside of the playoff positions.Briggus, bantam2708, Mike Hunt and 1 other person like this. -
The summer signing of Angol wasn't seen as a good signing at the time, but he made an excellent start for us before his injury and we can only hope that he continues from where he left off when he returns, and that he manages to stay injury free for the rest of the season (doubtful imo).
Eisa might yet turn out to be a decent signing, but he's already missed nearly a quarter of the season and it looks like he is going to miss a considerable amount more.
I think Songo'o is a decent addition but no more than that at the moment. I have a feeling that he is not 100% fit and hope that he will get better.
Ridehalgh has done alright. Threlkeld is no better than FCD imo. Gilliead flattered to deceive in his two previous spells at the club and continues to do so, Kelleher is a non league footballer, and nobody ever thought Lavery and Robinson were good signings full stop, never mind 'on paper'.
So what we have is a handful of 'decent enough' players, and whilst 'decent enough' players don't get you relegated, they don't get you promoted either.Dennis, Briggus and bantam2708 like this. -

Top. We will click soon. 84/85 we didn't hit top until mid November and then romped it.

Any team looking at promotion as a realistic aim would be putting games like yesterday to bed in the first 45 minutes. The fact we were hanging on for a draw by the end is a good indicator of where we currently are. I've gone 8th tn 12th.

I have issues with Adams but we are one point of the play offs and the first half performance yesterday was probably better than anything we have seen in recent years. There is still a lot to play for

I voted 8th to 12th but, really thinking about it, I might be over optimistic with that and we may well be heading for lower mid table.
We've won 1 of our last 10 games, in the league the highest placed team we've beaten as things stand are 17th, and 9 of our 12 opponents to date are in the bottom half.
There's another thread on here about our xG being high and showing we are underperforming, I wonder how that will stand up once we play more of the better teams?Hampshire Bantam likes this.
