Another green here

Adams started out as the Messiah.....five year plan, headhunted by the CEO at the time using proper criteria for the club etc etc

He brought in players that got an underwhelming reaction like Carey and Bradley, and after a complete blow out at Wembley v the Dons we won promotion alongside Doncaster and Pompey being pipped on the final day by losing at Grimsby ( as we so often do when we shouldn't)

So in league 2 he was golden.....League 1 was more of a battle.....we struggled first season then hit a golden spell where a run at the play offs looked possible...Ruben Lameiras, another signing who underwhelmed and almost go shipped out to Oldham soggily became the Portuguese Man o'Score and alongside Carey we looked like the surprise momentum team until we blew up at Northampton and then injuries took their toll and we finished mid table.

Then came the disaster.....signed Ladapo ( again underwhelming as a signing but who started scoring for fun) but seemingly lost the defence with the likes of Bradley leaving and never being successfully replaced. We also had a rookie keeper from Arsenal in Matt Macey who was perceived as a weak link by the fans. Truth is no-one can say what was happening back stage but there were rumours he lost the dressing room, that Ladapo was disruptive and in the end a horrible end of season collapse including a pathetic 5-1 down tools at Accrington meant we were in the hands of Sunderland reserves at Southend whose lamentable performance meant a last day win v Scunthorpe meant nothing.


So he left us as he found us, brought in some very good players and some very average ones.

He was marmite at the end and still gets a passionate debate on Pasoti whenever he pops up. The football was functional and successful in the main. He winds up the opposition ( especially Whycome and Pompous) and his press interviews are a marvel of blinkered one-sidedness. Single minded, obsessive and bloody minded spring to mind but others equally have found him good company and a willing conversationalist.

He probably needed to go from Argyle....some argue he lost the players and yet many follow him from club to club, notably Songo'o, Mellor and Diagouraga, but also the likes of Jervis Slew Letheren, He is happy to play without the ball yet brought in flair like Carey and Lameiras and Ladapo whose transfer fee from a free transfer signing paid for promotion the following season. he doesn't have to spend a lot of money to succeed in League 2 and in truth he never had a huge budget in league 1 ( and you will be told regularly how he is overachieving against that handicap).

He isn't going to be a PR whizz like a Holloway might be....I suspect you will sign a few players you will simply have to google...but he does use the loan system well and you will have some grafters who can scrap.

I'd say the odds on promotion for Bradford will shorten having him in there.....so good luck.

On balance despite how it ended he was the right man for us to get out of League 2 and I for one will watch your results with interest

 

You get a disciplinarian, teetotal, deeply religious manager with a fierce temper; and I think you get a very good chance of promotion next season. I'll be following events closely at Valley Parade for the next twelve months. Good Luck to you but today your luck has changed for the better already.

A Plymouth Argyle fan here.
You will get promoted but it won't be exciting or pretty.

DA has no family so there's no distractions, football is his life.
His team will be journey man players with one or two flair players.

He'll play a flat back 4 in a 4-1-2-3 formation or sometimes he'll have 2 sitting defensive midfield players. He'll play with one striker flanked by two others, usually these are strikers playing wide.

Tactically he's very good and uses his substitutions well. If the one or two flair players don't perform the football can become dour, he wins a lot of games 1-0.

He'll big up his achievements and will get under the noses of opposition managers and players.

Starting off everything will be fine but as Ross County fans warned Argyle fans Adams will start to be annoying once the team struggles. Adams doesn't take kindly to criticism and will react to the fans frustrations.

He won't be easy to get along with for your local media guys.

In summary, Adams is a very good manager, he knows how to win games and is at his best as the underdog on a low budget, getting the best out of journeymen mediocre players. It won't be pretty but it'll be effective.

 

About time we got someone who’ll bring some discipline to the club, we’ve been weak and gutless since the Rahic era. Which mercenaries on high wages. Time to be fitter, meaner and harder working than the other teams with a few bits of quality, that’s what’s needed to get out of this shitheap.

 

Adams also has double training sessions on Tuesday's and Thursday's (if there's no midweek games), several players at Argyle struggled with this but the team was certainly fit.

 

I live 10 mins away from Morecambe and regularly have a read of the match reports in the local rag from Morecambe's games, in 18 months that he has been in charge of Morecambe I don't think there has been any problem with the media on any scale or ever had any problems with the fans, maybe learned by previous mistakes but Morecambe fans can't speak highly enough of him.

 

Got to love this thread, many saying it can't be Adams for various reasons, now the official news has broken were bringing his personal life and that he might be a tee total, God fearing Scot into the debate, let's wait and see, they guy has an impressive CV let's hope he can continue his impressive past history at Valley Parade.

 

I read that Adams had his players in for training most Sundays since the New Year to improve fitness. A bit of a shock to the system to current players at City I would imagine.

 

Not bothered how many friends he makes if he gets us out of the 4th tier.

 

Sounds like a ringing endorsement. About time we had someone who won at all costs and didn’t care much for sound bites in the local media

 

Bloody hell you lot have stooped even lower than us!!!
Stockton is bloody useless, one of the worst centre forwards I've ever seen at Brunton Park, he can't jump any higher than his standing height, looses the ball more times than a blind man with one leg and has to be told (in a very simple language) where the back of the net is, he's been a bit of an improvement at Morcambe granted, that wouldn't be hard mind!! but Bradford can and should sign far better.

Got to say i am not bowled over by his charisma or footballing prowess but if he can replicate Parkinson then City will be leaving the khazi league sooner than later.
