What are Stefan's intentions for the Club?

Gillingham have an owner used to the day to day running of sports organisations. Also very ambitious. Not a guarantee of success but certainly a far better chance.

 

It is not rocket science is it? It is fair to say our recruitment is mediocre. We have players who are not up to scratch, and that is down to Hughes/Gent. Why do we want to pad the squad out with young players who are nowhere near ready to play? This is what is frustrating me, you build your team first and foremost, then replacement and bench, then the rest of the squad. We might as well use our own young players for padding purposes.

 

Our recruitment belies our complete lack of strategy. 2 years for East, 3 for Young. Why offer relatively long term contracts to young players then hardly give them a chance? Its baffling. And 3 years for Oliver, a target man when we play the least direct football in the division? Ridiculous.

 

And you just watch them fly this season. Its not that complicated, especially at this level. Even without owner funding, we should have a top 3 budget. We just have no idea what we're doing, we put it all in the lap of the manager.

 

Spot on. Brilliant post. Although you forgot the rehiring of a different recruitment lead, as apparently that became the way to go again. ;-)

 

Once again he has done a great commercially but if he wants to reflect on the football side he has made many mistakes. I think it is unfair to throw flack at a man who has nil experience in football management. In my view I would divide the role of CEO so no loss of salary and employ a FD as swift as possible. Rupp and Sparks will need help in doing that. So suggest they contact clubs where it is doing well so they can be part of the selection interview process. Same salary for FD.
We would be a formidable club if we had a strong structure at the top. Surely as ST holders must have some sway in how we want to proceed?

 

If they were his actual words that doesn't read well. Sparks probably bigging himself up, but it does read to me like a dig at Rupp, intentional or otherwise

 

I hope it is a dig because it's time he did start taking interest if he wants his money back .................

 

I wasn't aware of Kenny Jackets appointment but it makes sense a man who up until quite resently has been involved with the game over his career as both a player or manager knows the leagues and players.

 

I thought he was a Real Estate Agent as the source of his wealth.

We have a FD, Robin Knight and the Company Secretary, Alan Biggin is a Chartered Accountant.

 

If I remember he owned a team but can't remember which one. Also remember him saying ownership in the football league was auch more cost effective option than in American sports. You may well be right on how he accrues his wealth to pay for his boys toys.

 

All this talk about DOF will there be anybody out there better qualified than Mark Hughes with his vast experience and contacts who would you put above him without creating conflict

 

Rupp needs to pick up the phone to Jason Hirst at Bradford Bulls and get him in. A proven CEO who is doing a tremendous job at the Bulls.

 

I was thinking this but would he allow a Head Coach to have the team playing how they want? Or would he insist on setting the standard for how we want to play etc?
