This thread perfectly sums up the fickle nature of football fans. We can apply it to anything: player, manager, coaches, recruitment etc. One minute they are geniuses and in the blink of an eye they are garbage.

World beaters one minute non-league fodder the next.

He was definitely at fault for the first, bud.

If he'd been on his line, he'd have spilled it into the net. Instead, he spilled it out for a totally unnecessary corner they scored from. It was awful from Lewis.

Yes the simple corner routine should have been defended, but there's no letting Lewis off the hook for that one I'm afraid. A real howler.

 

It’s his job to make saves but also needs to command a level of concentration which avoids
1. dropping the ball into his own net
2. Fumbling balls out for corners which should easily be caught.
3. Dribbling out from the back and getting caught in possession.
4. Mistaking green rugby lines for white football lines 15 metres outside the box.

 

I fully accept he gave away a corner but it was up to us to defend. Second goal was a scorcher. That was a fantastic free kick if he gets it it would have been a world class save. He bent the ball as well. A good goalie will save your bacon and he did that the rest of the night.

 

Agreed, but it’s his mistakes that give the opposition a foothold in the game.
At Tranmere he gifted them their opener and last night he gifted them a corner which they scored from and then had holes in his hands for their 2nd just after we’d got ourselves back into the game.
There have also been other incidents this season where he’s cost us goals at key moments in the game.

He was at fault at Crawley, Morecambe, Tranmere and last night.
Your general point I agree with. I’ve pointed out the number of headed goals we concede in the six yard box, open play and set pieces, as far back as Mansfield away last year.
He was responsible for the second last night, the first was really poor leading to the corner - but the bigger issue was the lack of basic defending from the corner.
After that, the playing of a high line with centre halves miles from each other whilst having the slowest pairing I can remember could and should have cost us five or six more. Lewis kept us in the realms of respectability (calling 4-1 respectable is a stretch I know).

 

I think it was a deflection back towards goal. It may have spun badly on the bounce but really still can’t defend it. My point really was that we should be able to perform the basics of defending a corner. e.g. don’t leave a man in ten yards of space on the box

 

Apologies @Gardscoigne I certainly did not intend my post to come across in that way. I wasn't questioning your level of support, we all have reasons we can't go to matches so I would never intentionally belittle someone in that manner. I'm just not the most tactful at explaining my point lol

 

All goalkeepers make mistakes at any level and are more costly than other areas of the pitch, but Lewis is struggling with the basics at the moment

 

Remove Harry Lewis and insert any player into that gap and it's a generic response for some on here.

They don't like honest evaluations of current form and believe it to be an over the top, inaccurate and skewed view only brought about because of an unconscious (or conscious) dislike of the player.

I'd mention a certain centre forward in his final year at the club as conclusive proof but it would take the thread off course. Nevertheless though, it's definitely true.

 

And I never said there was. Fans are entitled to their individual views. However, my observation of how fickle fans can be is a widely acknowledged characteristic of football fans in general. This thread is a good example of that.

Mark my words this will be a constant recurring theme all season and will cost us dearly. But at the end of it, when we have yet another mid-table finish, people like you will still put Lewis on a pedestal just because he screams "up the fecking chickens" down the camera when we win

 

World class? Not even close for me.

Firstly, Lewis set the wall poorly giving too much of the goal to aim at

Secondly, the ball was straight at him and although moving, from nearly 30 yards out I think Lewis himself would be disappointed he didn't get a hand behind it.
