Whilst he did set us up positively, we still played the hopeless long ball game for the majority of the first half. It was dire and if we do the same again this afternoon, it will allow Walsall to start confidently.

We need to play the ball on the ground, from the first minute, moving it at speed and getting our better players on the ball as much as we can.

And when not in possession, we need to be hungry enough to win it back. Don’t give them any time on the ball and be in their faces. We need to get into them as they will be nervous. Allow them to gain confidence from a poor start by us, and we will come away empty handed.

 

Like he did against Fleetwood? Isn’t that why Hopkin dropped Doyle for him. That worked well didn’t it as we resorted to just hoofing it long to him and not into channels.

Nah, not for me. We just need to set up like we were on Saturday and play like we did for the 2nd half.

 

When we never actually scored or really looked like scoring? As you said - that worked well, didn't it?

If you adopted that philosophy every manager would be making at least 8 changes every game

 

But not so many good players that we can field a normal formation.

That MIGHT be the underlying issue.

At least, for the 2nd 45mins last week, we looked like scoring. Created chances that their keeper had to make. The way we set up against Fleetwood, we would still be playing now and not had an effort on target

 

Thought he was brought in as our attacking saviour in the January transfer window? We didn't sign any other forward so I'm assuming the expectation was he was going to win us some points?

 

He’ll still make more of an impact than Miller did against Fleetwood.
