I could see Doyle coming back but not Hanson. Doyle only played a few times last season and might be released and he lives on the doorstep

It takes strong management to resist that temptation around over-reaching, excessively. Its a fine line between ambition and mismanagement. More and more clubs need to cut their cloth accordingly, but it won't happen until there's proper reform around financial regulation within the game.

For example, the way i'd like to see city run is on the basis of our playing/wage budget being aligned to whatever we can generate through our own revenue. To really compete in that sense, we'll need to find a better balance around ticket pricing. But the area i'd like to see being invested in - and it'd have to come from the owner, or from external investment - is scouting and coaching. Our 'USP' is the fact that in the lower leagues we're a relatively big club, certainly we have a relatively large fan base. We're on the door step of some of the world's biggest clubs, as well as several other premiership and championship clubs. We should be establishing ourselves as a feeder club - or to put it better - as a stepping stone for players wanting a crack at the big time. Go out and find the best players under 23, wanting to play in the top 2 leagues but who need a couple of years outside of those leagues before anyone would be willing to take a punt. Create a template for high paced, pressing, attacking football - as is played by the better clubs in the country, and offer the opportunity to these young players to prove themselves in front of an audience that's likely higher pressure than most other clubs in Leagues 1/2 can provide. Be open about not standing in the players' way when offers come in.

You're probably talking somewhere in the region of £3-400K additional running costs each year for a couple of extra coaches and scouting service. And probably a couple of million to invest in the fees. There's risk, as there is with any investment, but if you get it right then you create a model that can repeatedly find properly talented young players, develop and sell them on. Not aimless punts on the likes of Gunner, Patrick, Pybus etc. Do it properly, and the rewards are substantial.

Some of it is very scary indeed. Most of the PL clubs in the bottom half have huge wages bills (Swansea's was almost £90mill) relative to their revenues and are massively dependent on the Sky TV contract. If any of these clubs are relegated and the Sky income more than halves overnight, they are in a real predicament and forced to sell players when everybody else knows they are short of cash! Who'd be a PL owner? ;)

We won’t sign Doyle unless we can get rid of O’Donnell.

If O'Donnell goes Colin Doyle would be fine at that level, couldn't care less that he's an ex player. Not sure how anybody could say that he isn't a good keeper for that level!

I hope Doyle does come back - we aren't going to do much better for a goalkeeper at the level we're at, and you know he'd jump at the chance to get back to his family. (his actual family, not Bantams Family)
O'Donnell can sod off - I'll drive him to Rotherham myself.

I can take or leave Tony McMahon - I quite liked him, but he's getting on a bit now - however we are a level lower now, and what he would bring is some 'character' and leadership to the dressing room, which is severely lacking at the moment.

    James Hanson? absolutely not.

I'd piggy back O'd to Rotherham. Doyle is more commanding and has a bit more height, plus more experience as well.
Tony Mc - I'd take for a year, his set pieces could be vital in league 2, plus he can always be a plan b for right back or right wing if we need to hold on to a lead. Plus his dressing room prescence could be vital as well. As for Hanson, I couldn't go to the last game of the season, but I was told he looked very unfit and had put weight on. With no Nick Allamby here anymore I'm not sure this would work.

that's why it's called a 'rumour' and i'd seen it, not said he was definately off. There's also the rumours of Jack Byrne on his way today, but then again it's just rumour. Just trying to get some rumours on here, seen as it's gone off topic discussing Swnasea's current financial difficulties which should be in another thread.

From the same old fans that struggle to look forwards and desperately cling to over the hill players like some sort of comfort blanket.

Let's be honest, if we'd been linked with a random Centre forward that's struggled with injury and has a strike rate of less than 1 in 10 over his last 3 clubs we'd all be up in arms. Yet because that forward is a 30+ year old James Hanson somehow it makes it a legitimate target?

In an interview with Katie Whyatt on the Width of a Post website 24/01/2016 James Hanson's father Michael said of his son " he could play centre half for me, and in a few years I think he probably will, because he can defend."

So about James returning as a defender?

How about signing a proper centre half instead?

Just because he can head away the odd corner, it doesn't make him a defender. With his pace and turning circle he'd get murdered by anyone that can burst into a light jog.
