That is very much my own thinking as well, and I don't think it's a bad approach.

There is no way they could afford or want to do that. We would lose a lot of fans with a stay in this league. The owner doesn’t want it because he will want to sell the club the manager doesn’t want because it will blot his CV and the fans won’t want it for obvious reasons. The only aim this season is promotion whether we achieve it or not remains to be seen

Another "we'll never know" thought occurs. I wonder if Bowyer thought he had some outgoing transfers lined up that fell through. Is it 15 midfielders we have now? Seems excessive.

Agreed that promotion should always be the goal, and that none of us *want* to stay down here, myself included. The emotional part of me as a supporter certainly hopes we will be one of those sides who bounce straight back up. The pragmatic, long- rather than short-now side of me however wonders if it is just not a step too far.

By all accounts there is much to fix at the club outside of the playing side. And on the playing side, we have indeed brought in a great number of players, and some of last-season's holdovers have improved enough to merit continued selection, but other holdovers have not impressed or remain unavailable, and we still have not signed that Mick Kennedy type that we do need.

The first six matches should have dispelled any illusions we might have had that we'll just walk over this league, and I don't know that today's signings will change that. At the moment I think we're a mid-table to just-outside-the-playoffs side.

Could the coaching setup and Drury in particular be holding everything back?

I think that's disrespectful, to be honest.

It's one thing to say "it might take two-three windows to correct all the errors of the previous regime", but to say "they simply haven't gone for it because they wanted to consolidate" must be a slap in the fact to a regime that have signed up a proven manager, forked out for Vaughan and Donaldson (even before some of the big earners left), allowed Bowyer to invest in 10 full time players plus loans from higher divisions.

Promotion is very definitely the aim, whether we're quite there or not is another matter - but to wonder whether Rupp was looking to finance a promotion? Like I say, I find that disrespectful.

In theory, we could have Vaughan, Donaldson, Doyle, Scannell, and the rest to pay for the rest of the season - we'd committed to that - however we've been smart and cut our cloth a little tighter, vanquishing two of our big earning underachievers, directly replacing both. But I can't remember any League Two side paying such big wages for four big name players.

Why? Because the table says that's what we are? The table also says Grimsby are promotion contenders, Mansfield are a lower mid-table side and Scunthorpe are gone. Do you think those sides fates are also sealed this early as well?

Im not sure its 15 but its certainly a lot and seemingly none of them are what we do actually require in there.

To me it just smacks of collins and hopkin..looking at the squad and its imbalance it would appear he has just signed players willy nilly and without really thinking about the needs of the team. He is now left throwing players and formations at the 1st 11 because he doesnt know his best side and is trying to shoehorn players in..people said last pre season was a clusterfuck but him filling sides with triallists and still dicking about with 22 players right up to the last friendly means, definitely to me anyway, that this pre season was just as bad

I make it 11 in the midfield if you include reeves. I’d imagine there is going to be plenty of unhappy players not getting game time.

It’s not imbalanced at all except maybe one position we have plenty of cover in defence we now have 5 strikers we have competition on the wing and lots of choice in midfield.Top heavy is probably right but not imbalanced

As long as Akpan is one of them, hope he frustrates himself away from VP.

    Sorry park got to disagree..

Until an injury we had a right back at left back and a left back on the wing.

We have 2 strikers not 5, ill give you 3 with the QPR lad but im not having Patrick.

Out of 11 midfielders we have no one of what we actually need in their ie someone to stick a foot in.

We have an abundance of those "attacking midfielders" which seems to be inline with those 4 number tens we had last year.

Sorry but Its a mess and he doesnt have a clue how to fit them all in

Despite all our signings we have two gaping holes. One at left back where we currently have only one option and the other a defensive midfielder where we have Akpan or Anderson.

With regards your recent posts you seem to have an agenda against Bowyer.
You've made many correct calls with regards his latest signing yet you call for his head after 6 league games.
