Bowyer obviously favours this formation and as soon as he has the players in he wants, he will revert to it, in my opinion

McCartan will be a useful squad member in my opinion. Decent enough to come off the bench.

However, I get Fordy's point that generally he has been nowhere near justifying the £250k fee we paid

If Devitt joins, I can see us playing 433 a hell of a lot. Palmer holding, Cooke and Devitt in front. Though we could play the same players in a 442 with one of them from the left. Good to have the flexibility to change system in games without having to make subs. The more I think of it, the more it makes sense.

Not having a midfielder who can tackle may prove to be a problem though....

 

All true. Palmer, Cooke and Devitt extremely lightweight!!! Two are 5'7 and the other 5'10.

Suppose they have a couple of big lads behind and in front though.

 

How many times have you seen Cooke play, in the flesh??
Ive never seen him so wouldn't be throwing him in straight away

 

I'm led to understand that Lincoln paid a decent 6 figure fee for the season loan he had there plus all his wages and they wanted to buy him but GB wanted to keep him for his L2 experience. That comes from the Lincoln side!

 

According to transfermarket.com Devitt has played over 50 games as a right midfielder and a few on the right wing. Factor that in with Cooke who favours the opposite side and it looks like we're going to set up with a 4-3-3.

 

Why not 4-5-3....?

So you are suggesting a 4th Division club paid a +£100k loan fee plus his wages at let's say a conservative £2k a week. for eight months. Say another £60k
For a player only selected in the 1st XI 23 times.
No chance

That 6 figure loan fee must have been £1000.00

 

I've always been under the impression Devitt is a winger, is that not the case?

 

Which is fine if you have the players to do it.. End of the day the system doesn't matter.. winning games is what's important

I asked that very question and he said they got very decent money for Alex Woodyard and reinvested it to have another push for promotion / playoffs. The Cowleys identified McCarten as a possible target but Rahic wanted a large fee so the loan was sorted instead.
