He soundly like he was desperately trying to build a player up that's weak.

McCartan can go passed players - I can't recall him taking on a player.

McCartan just can't handle pressure and before someone says he can take free kicks or pens it more than that.

Seriously, he would be better off at Crawley or something. Never going to make it here.

Sean really blossomed when he went on loan. He was all set to go back until injuries meant he stayed and he got his chance. Young players need to force the issue a bit more

How dare a manager try to install confidence in a player. Have you ever thought that he may only do this if he thinks he’s worth it

He appears to have been doing the same thing with Gibson and Devine and if that means we end up with better squad players, what's not to like?

    Not really.

A manager will do it even if a player isn't worth it.

Look, if the club is counting on McCartan then we're in trouble. I don't think we are as I believe we will go out and sign a player that will play in his position. He isn't good enough.

Devine isn't good enough and Bowyer said he needs to improve.

Devine is what you class as a safe player. For those that lack footballing knowledge he looks good to their eye but really he just plays safe passes and they're mainly sideways. He's slow and players get passed him easily.

Most fans on here understand our midfield is a weak area and we need better than Devine & Gibson.

I don't think you are grasping the point. Nobody is disputing we need to strengthen midfield but the fact is, for this season Devine and Gibson are part of the squad and will need to be used at various times. Therefore, anything Bowyer can do to improve them (i.e. building up their confidence) is a positive is it not?

    No, they just need replacing.

Bowyer needs to be knocking on Rhodes door or phoning/video calling Rupp to demand better than Danny Devine, McCartan and Gibson.

If I am honest only Gibson i would hopes for but these are slim hopes and mainly due to the lack of wingers at the club but if he left tomorrow I wouldn't be bothered.

You can build confidence in players but with the likes of McCartan and Devine we all know we need better so bit pointless really as it's a skill set thing not a mindset thing.. you understand that point?

A manager who can improve or get the most out of his players. What’s not to like

Given your in-depth knowledge of football management, I shouldn't have to tell you that every club in the EFL has to have a 'club developed player' in its match day squad or else only have 6 players on the bench. Devine is our only CDP at the moment who is within touching distance of the first team squad. If our CDP is not Devine, who do you suggest should be?

Probably a moot point now, but why do we have to have a back-up keeper on the bench? 99% of the time, the keeper will stay on the field of play, so why does the no2 have to take that spot?

We could have picked GSK to sit on the bench and get around this silly rule. The chances of him being called into action would be slim and allows us to pick 6 outfield players ON MERIT and not to just get around a rule

Nonsense that was his first involvement this season yes he missed a good chance but he also brought a good save out of the keeper he is definitely a good option of the bench

As you know, GSK is on loan at the moment. Even if that wasn't the case, I wouldn't imagine him being on the bench in preference to Hornby. We would therefore still need a CDP

Fair point, didn't McCall not select a second keeper for the bench a few times during his tenure at Valley Parade.

It’s called good management some players need a kick up the backside to motivate them others need an arm round the shoulder and encouragement

Look, you said it yourself he missed a good chance. Players miss chances but if you think he's a good option if we need then I disagree.

Do you think he would been a better option than Doyle?

I class you as an acceptable. You accept anything.

Not like you to disregard the comment for your own gain....!

I clearly started by saying “it’s a moot point now”, (seen as we allowed GSK to leave on loan).

But I ask again, what is the point in naming Hornby on the bench instead of GSK, seen as they are unlikely to get on? Hornby should play the cup games and if O’Donnell got a lengthy injury, he would come in, with GSK staying on the bench.

It's a silly rule and gains nothing but highlights how we lack local talent.

Why do we only have Devine as this player? @BoingBoing@BoingBoing makes a great point which you're failing to answer.

Our recruitment has been poor for years hence why we now have no assets.

Isnt Robinson be classed as one of these players?

Anyway point is with this rule or not it still doesn't make Danny Devine good enough and need better. So let's replace him and get him back on the bench next to Anderson.

I didn’t have a problem with him ‘bigging’ McCartan up when the subject was Shay McCartan. But it was weird he did it when the the subject was nothing to do with him.

Yes, it is a moot point which you seem intent on disregarding.

It's probably a question best asked of Bowyer who prefers to have two keepers on the books both of whom are capable of being the number 1. And he, the manager, prefers both of those players in his match day squad rather than somebody who he'd prefer to be playing on loan in the Conference.
