A very interesting situation unfolding after England's Tom Curry complained to the ref about an alleged offensive remark was made toward him in the South Africa semi final.
Now this could easily be a case of mistaken identity, the words alleged do have a very similar wording in Afrikaans. But that clearly isn't how the racism industry works.
And reading social media comments about it it builds up a picture about what the grift really is with this while racism gravy train. No one even knows what was actually said yet but I've seen terms like colonialism and white privilege already used. Even though it's a white guy making the complaint.
Good luck to the next generation, of which my lad belongs. Cos it ain't gonna get any better.

It was a weird incident. What Mbonambi said to Curry himself wasn't picked up on any of the mikes. When Curry reported it to the ref, every word of that was heard via ref's mike. The ref didn't do anything about it at the time but clearly included it in his match report. World Rugby are now investigating. Calling somebody a c**t is hardly a crime particularly in the heat of a big game but when it is preceded by white, as it was, it does change things.

I believe Jon Terry was fined and banned for calling Anton Ferdinand the exact same thing. And I say exact, even though Terry used the word black instead of white....because really, there should be no difference. Of course in this instance, it won't go any further, and it'll be put down to the player being angry after years of institutionalised racial segregation. Ticking off at most.

Are there any precedences set for a non white person found guilty of racist abuse against a white person in sport? I'd probably say not.

The nearest one I recall was in cricket in a test match between India and Australia at least 10 years ago. In the game, Harbajhan Singh called Andrew Symonds a monkey. Symonds was mixed race rather than white. It doesn't entirely accord with what you asked for. Harbajhan however did receive a ban for the rest of their test series.

It'll be interesting to see if the authorities act upon the allegation before or after the final. I think I read somewhere that he was the only recognised hooker that South Africa have.

He's their 'principal recognised hooker' whatever that means. They are however allowed to bring in a replacement hooker if he is unavailable. I suspect that World Rugby will stall on this and not come to a conclusion until after the final .. and then ban him!

Does that rule apply even if he is banned?

The cynic in me suspects that you may well be correct in your assumption.

Does it? I didn't realise racism was a two way street.

If he is banned and they aren't allowed a replacement then for safety reasons they will go to uncontested scrums. Unless the rules have changed for scrums to be contested teams have to field a "recognised" front row...I think

they have another player they have been using in the front row as a sub so surely they could play the whole game

I don't know. I was just responding to the other post. Shame it wasn't uncontested scrums last week looking at how they demolished Englands front row subs

There is no way World Rugby will go to uncontested scrums. SA have 2 other players who have already played hooker for the Springboks - Fourie and van der Staden. They may not be of the same standard as Mbonambi but they are obviously safe options.

I don't have much sympathy for the Springboks. Their 'reserve' hooker Marx was injured at the start of the tournament and returned home. A replacement was sent out, not another hooker or even a front rower. SA chose to replace him with Handre Pollard, a fly half! They must have assumed that there was already adequate cover as hooker and preferred another kicker.

Is that what he said, white c-word?

Pretty easy ban, I suppose can they prove it is the question?

The ending I thought would happen as soon as Curry made his complaint. Personally I have no problem with the decision if that's what they have decided after reviewing the evidence. Just one observation though. Had this have been a role reversal I can guarantee you this would not have been the outcome. Because that's not how the whole racism industry/gravy train works. Remember the teacher at Batley? Had death threats and had to move house ( I know someone who knows him well). And now Curry is the one being berated on social media.
Strange world we live in folks.

    In other news.
I saw an all white heterosexual family in an advert on the telly today.

Not really, just another pointer to the strange world we live in.

So yesterday it's reported that there is no way the investigation can be finalised before the weekend so he's clear to play and 24 hours later it's all wrapped up, including a second allegation with the words "nothing to see here m8".

I'm absolutely certain this investigation was as thorough as would have been expected if the roles were reversed.

Anyone got a carpet to sweep this under?
