Time for an independent timekeeper methinks, let him adjudge the time-wasting sat in the stand.
A nice big clock that is stopped when play is halted and started again when play restarts.
Let the ref concentrate on the game.
Even the Yanks work like that for their 'football'.
Radical perhaps but will bring an end to the farcical situation we have now of playing 50 minutes out of 90.
Might not get to the Dolly until 6 o'clock though.

Get ready for waves of yellow cards in the first month of the season whilst the new rules take time to bed in. I like the idea of cracking down on timewasting. Last year was as bas as I can remember for it. League Two saw the least amount of time with the ball in play last season .According to statistics from Opta, the ball was on the pitch on average for just 48.2 per cent of the game. That was compared with 54.46 in the Premier League, 52.13 in the Championship and 50.70 in League One.
Be good to see how many of these rules stick? Like players will now cant just decide to sit down and ask for a physio, they will be cautioned if they do so as now they have to leave the field to get treatment. Once the treatment is done, they have to wait 30 seconds with the 4th official before coming on. Cant see refs sticking to 30 seconds for too long without crowds getting angry.
Penalty rule changes too looks like it might lead to red cards.
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick:
- A yellow card will be issued if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball.
- A red card will be shown in all other circumstances (e.g., holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball)
I like the new throw in rules. You have to use the nearest ball too you and no longer allowed to use towels to slow the game down and dry the ball. Tozer at Wrexham might as well retire now.CRASS, Jayteebee, Rogered Tart and 4 others like this. -

Eg. The Colchester game last season. Rafts of people left early only to get back to their car to find out we’d won 2-0.
Why did they bother turning up in the first place. LolWilsdenBantam, Jayteebee, Petrov and 2 others like this. -

Take a look at our game in isolation. 14 yellows, one red and it wasn’t a dirty game, it wasn’t a game with dangerous tackles, it wasnt a game where one player showed any angry dissent towards the referee, it wasn’t a game where players got into “ confrontations “. Yet 14 yellows??
I said on Friday night Bobby Madeley, a Premier League ref got it just about right, in the Wed game , but we will get the refereeing dross and it will be different altogether. So right I was proved.Allotment Bantam, Petrov, WilsdenBantam and 2 others like this. -

The main thing that pisses me off about the time wasting issue is the reluctance of referees to clamp down on it straight away.
They seem to think that it’s only an issue in the last 10 minutes, and only by teams who are winning.
We saw a few home games last year when the opposition started the so called dark arts from virtually the first whistle.
It’s just as much time wasting in the first 15 minutes when the score is 0-0 as it is when a team is 1-0 up.
Hopefully the new adaptation of the laws give the refs a bit more licence to clamp down on the teams who come for a 0-0 from minute 1.Offcomedun, Jayteebee, Tony Wilkinson and 1 other person like this. -
Timekeepers work really well in Rugby League. Frees referees to referee. Stops blatant time wasting, referee just gives signal to stop the clock. Amount of time ball in play is reducing year on year. Am I missing something? Thought we should have had this for a while.

Also this afternoon announced that clocks on the scoreboards will now include the stoppage time, rather than ending at 45 or 90 mins. No longer guessing how's longs left is a plus.
I think there are still a few clubs that don't have a digital scoreboard though.CRASS, The Original EB, Dennis and 1 other person like this. -

I’ve watched around 5 games this weekend, including ours and the new rules don’t seem to have anything to do with our ref being card happy. He chose to do that himself and he should be hooked back to non-league

Get ready to see 9 or 10 minutes added time in every game.
Might stop the mass exodus on 80-85minutes if there could be another 15 mins to play.Steve Burton, Stoneski and Interested Bystander like this. -

I think the main tweaks to the laws involved time keeping/time wasting, technical areas and the interpretation of clear goal scoring opportunities.
As far as I know not one of the yellow cards from yesterday (apart from Hodges) was for the new interpretations.
Yesterday I thought the first of Oyegoke’s cards was a bit harsh but after seeing it again I’m not so sure.
Unfortunately winning the ball (but with a bit of force) has now become punishable.
This statement is from the EFL website
Our referee clearly ignored this and dished them out like confetti,
Unfortunately that left him without any wiggle room when the second offence occurred.
What pisses most fans off is that later in the game similar fouls go unpunished when the ref realises he’s jumped in too quick earlier in the game.
I looked at a few games from our division and FGR v Salford didn’t have a single booking in the whole 90mins.
So,like I posted yesterday, that game either didn’t have a single offence worthy of a yellow(highly unlikely with the new interpretations and the way FGR implement the dark arts) or it was refereed completely differently to ours.
I know refs are human and like supporters see every decision slightly differently but there’s no way so many games yesterday had double figure cards and others don’t have any,
Yesterday we were punished by some poor refereeing
In other games we’ll benefit from it.
It’s a contact sport and the sooner some refs realise this the better. -

Can’t wait for the meltdown on here when we are 1-0 up and the opposition equalise in added time and then the completely opposite reaction the match after and how the system works perfectly when we are 1-0 down and equalise in added time.

The last thing I want to see is fans and players guessing how long will be added, and then how long the added time will actually last.
Just give us some clarity.
Last season we saw added time increase dramatically - except for one or two pillock refs who for some reason didn't have to be the same as the others routinely giving 7-10 minutes, and giving 3 or 4 instead.
