We were unlucky today.
If Hanson's header doesn't his BRE then it's saved.
How Clayton didn't get a penalty after being dragged down is beyond me.
Just seen Cheltenham v Scunny and they got one for an exact foul.
I know it's not popular but I can see what GB is trying to do.
Solid if not spectacular start to the season, building the defences confidence whilst not losing.
Clean sheets always give us a base to go forward.
I don't understand the hatred of Henley, by far better than Mellor today
Play Gibson in Doyle's position and Scannell out wide, and Ismail on the left once he's fit.
Henley right back and a proper left back.
That should yield more goals
Today imo was a big improvement on last week so we are moving in the right direction.

 

@Lordbantam is fishing. Gibbo had a decent game and provided a great cross for the goal.

 

Can't agree with this. No way were we unlucky, Grimsby were more than worth a point. First half was appalling. When our manager decides to play players in their right position i might start giving him some credit.

 

So we were appalling yet didn't get beaten? In fact took the lead. That's one step up from last season. No?

Read it again, what does it say? Thats right, the first half was appalling. From both sides, it was non league stuff. Second half was better as a spectacle. My view might differ from others but i thought it was generally a pretty poor game of football. Some may be happy with 1-1 'thriller' against Grimsby, i wasn't. When they start to impress me i'll change my thoughts accordingly.

 

Good on you for going today. I didn't. However your expectations seem a little high for this league. I think you will be waiting many months to be impressed. I on the other hand are quite sanguine about where we are. There is a long way to go.

 

If you are looking for positives then so far.

O'Donnell. Made some good saves today and could say was arguably out motm. Looks to have got his confidence back.

The centre backs. Both had a battle today with a physical team and were generally good, as they were last week.

The front two. Both have different attributes that could dovetail as the season progresses, Vaughan's movement and pace and Donaldson's hold up play and knack of getting free kicks at pressure times are a pleasure to watch.

Jordan Gibson. Positives and negatives from this lad but there is something to work on. Positives in the physical side of his game, has started both games well . Negative with his decision making, should have put Donaldson in today instead of shooting and gets ragged as the game goes on but there has been improvement.

None of the rest has really impressed me yet, the two full backs were poor today and playing Henley on the left is nonsensical. Palmer has struggled the first two games to get into any rhythm, although this could be down to the midfield set up favoured so far by Bowyer. Anderson doesn't seem to fit into any position which in turn doesn't help Palmer. Hopefully a new CM will fix this problem. And then the real elephant in the room, Doyle in a '10' role. What the f**k is all that about? Its achieved nothing in two games now and needs to be shelved immediately. Pronto. And Scannell needs to start in place of Doyle. Without question.

There is potential in this side, there should be with the fact most of have played at a better level than league 2. But only if you play to system that suits the players at your disposal. Square pegs in round holes does not work.

 

But only when Scannell came on did it improve when 4-4-2. Until then it was turgid.

 

Thought he looked lost in central midfield personally. Much better on the wing as game went on. Got more involved but still is hit and miss but suppose a league two player for a reason.

This is worrying, didnt go today and unfortunately i found our first game boring. Badly lack at least 2 midfielders and am not convinced by our right back, doesnt look a good footballer.

I expected so much better than such a bang average/poor start.

Attendances will soon drop off if we dont start entertaining and pickkng up 3 points, not to mention patience running thin, i can see GB in for a rocky road very soon.

Negative - midfield and results.

Gibson was woeful and very good. There doesn't seem to be a balance!

Positives - great ball in for Vaughan, does look confident on the ball.

Negatives - he is an arrogant little shit who thinks he is better than he is. That drag back that went out for goal kick was uncalled for. He had a chance to square it.

 

Sums Gibsons two performances up so far. He should have also put Donaldson in from the breakaway when he chose to shoot at the defender when Donaldson was clear. Looks more creative than Palmer though.

 

Being unbeaten is not a positive drawing twice gets you less points than a win and a defeat. Only city fans could be this wet

He already is getting flak! He must be watching a different game to us or is too stubborn to admit he is wrong.

That said, when we took the lead and Scannel came on, we looked like we could concede - and we did.

He should have stuck with the diamond!

 

When you lost as many games as we did last season, I'm not sure suffering defeat in one of your two opening games would do much to bolster confidence.
