Little point in judging it now. We always start the season with a great looking pitch. If the pitch comes through the tests of the winter weather better than previous years then its money well spent.

Pure guess work here but I'm sure they are looking for improvements across all areas of the pitch. Therefore, if we continue to have problems in certain areas, such as the corners, the ground staff can concentrate on those areas when issues arise rather than having to fix a whole pitch.

Wow that looks like a farmers field! Looks like a February pitch after 3 feet of snow has just melted.

And this just proves what a fricking happy clapper this deluded fool is. There are patches in all 4 corners showing no sign of growth, yet it looks “very good”...!

    Give me strength..!

When is it next played on? I imagine they'll be thinking about laying fresh turf in the corners if there is time for them to bed in and start growing

On that surface the animals and tractor actually look more plausible than the goal and the corner flag! ;) :)

So what's the consensus from the Bradford City AFC Horticultural Grass Fanciers?

Is it good enough or what?

Personally I couldn't care less, but since real people genuinely voted for grass over players, I thought I'd ask?

Corners are still fecked. Rest of the pitch looks the same as it does this time every year. I suppose in a few months we'll really see if there's been any improvement.

Yeah, I guess we'll see - what annoys me is that last year we clearly had a very bad winter - right through til Spring we had a lot of rain and even heavy snow (multiple times) - so it's not really surprising the pitch was crap, what I don't get is why it matters so much?

The only logical reason for 'major' works is because it might save money on relaying the turf every other year - but will it?

I think the work needed to be done sooner or later. We couldn't have us playing on a mudbath through winter for much longer. It was an embarrassment for a professional club to have a pitch like that.

Whether it will save us money I don't know but it will allow the players to play more football and not have to resort to hoofball during the winter period!

I think they were in trouble with the FA for cancellation of matches, there was one Saturday and we were the only club who couldn’t get a game on. Plus it costs the club everytime one is cancelled so it just had to be done Jon. It looks fine to me, yes the corners are ropey, but I think that is due to lack of water ironically lol it looks bevelled at the corners so any water will run off, plus very hot sun which we have also had not very good for grass growing:)

We did have a very bad winter, but that still didn’t stop the likes of PA and Halifax getting games on. Our pitch was a quagmire at times and needed fixing. We couldn’t just continue to fix the he top layer every pre-season. The 2nd level drains needed to be replaced as they’d been in place for 30+ yrs and were clearly fecked.

From the man in charge of the whole process, it looks like next summers big investment could be new irrigation as it's not very good. Off the top of my head we only have 5 sprinklers around the pitch (2 on each touchline and one on the centre spot), i could be wrong with that but they are the only ones i remember. If i am right about 5 then the position of them is probably a reason why the corners are suffering as water isn't getting there and also the NW corner will probably get the least amount of sun with the sunwin blocking out all sun in the afternoon. I'd imagine there will be a lot of clubs lower down struggling with the severe lack of rain we've had and it doesn't look like stopping.

Last Friday night there was about 12 pigeons congregating on that area of the pitch and they were also putting a cover over it.. Always has been a problem area that corner for as long as I can remember and I'm guessing regardless of what is done it always will be

A scarecrow instead of the corner flag should do the trick

The last I knew, Birky, there were 9 sprinklers, 3 down each side and 3 down the middle, those ones as I recall were funded by Shipley Bantams or Friends of Bradford City around 4 years ago. As we all know we have had dry and hot weather but a hose pipe in the areas not fully covered by the sprinklers will solve the issue and there is time before 11th August first game. Just a matter of application by Mick Doyle now he is back off holiday and I'm sure he will deal with it.
