I suspect any guarantee are in the bin due to playing a game on the grass with frost coming down. Plus rolling the pitch thus hindering the drainage system they installed.

Has it collapased, or was that drainage installed not up to changing climate conditions
I work out side and it seems to have rained everyday since September, very few cold dry days this winter.
As i say , we need to find a way forward.

They would probably say " You should have read the small print, you weren't supposed to play football on it" ...

Sitting near to the pitch, when the grass breaks down (as it is currently) I can see an embedded fine walled plastic looking mesh along the touchline. Not sure if it is just here or all over the entire pitch, but have always presumed it holds the roots together and helps compact the space sand. But does anybody know what it is/ does exactly?

Looking at Youtube videos of the Morecambe game which was on boxing day the pitch was fine. The game against Stockport should never had gone ahead, thats the turning point which totally ruined the pitch. It was worse on that day than it was for the Salford postponement. Clearly the club put a full away end cash income over the long term prospects of the the pitch, because if that were a game against say Crewe who would have only brought a few hundred, it would have been called off before 4pm.

Are you saying they are responsible for the weather if it’s proven ,( drain cameras.) there was/ is nothing wrong with their work?

Helps to hold the root system in place . Here’s some heavy duty stuff , lighter versions are available.

It is just on the touchline to help with wear, If it was on the pitch it would be a huge danger to players who may catch a stud in the mesh causing significant injury, The system is used on walkways and trails where there is heavy footfall to help with wear

Maybe like most things at the club the pitch is looked after on the cheap. If we have not followed the company's maintenance programme they will not be liable for its unplayable state

    Agree with you. I feel there has been two problems this year;

    1. The Liverpool U21 where playing on ground that was freezing destroyed the grass - not sure what could be done about that

    2. Excessive amounts of rain that have happened since that match that have cause the top of the pitch to become in a poor condition - for this, if there was some kind of cover system that stopped the rain getting onto the pitch then it may be in a better condition and the Notts County match would probably have been on. There must be a way of quantifying the cost of having a Saturday match move to midweek in terms of less ticketing and other revenue.

The question was unhelpfully unspecific allowing a response which answered the question but which doesn't address the problem. The question needed to be more specific.

Yes, I was there and the rolled fine on most of the pitch. I guess it must be ok to play on, but it seems mad that it's okay to play professional sport on what is essentially compacted sand?

The club can not call of matches due to the state of the playing surface, that is the match officials role.

After 6 years? Who in their right mind would give a 6+ year warranty on a very temporary solution!?

Using the trusty old car analogy - imagine what state your motor would be in after 6 years of no MOT/service/maintenance? It wouldn't be drivable

One of my absolute pet hates is businessmen who refuse to maintain premises/equipment once the initial investment has been made. It's like "well I have spent this much, and you lot should be forever grateful"

Thanks. Yes this is a very "heavy duty" version compared with what I can see. They look hexagonal and each space can't be more than 20mm across with 1mm walls. The problem is they are definitely on at least part of the pitch played on. I am beginning to think I have dreamt it or maybe the imprint left by a roller. I will check tomorrow evening as I am sure the grass will not have grown back just yet:confused:.

From Facebook, the pitch is looking a lot dryer than 48 hours ago and should be fine for tomorrow.
