I went on the Supporters Board Minutes from the last meeting. Issue K addresses the question about the pitch. My opinion is that it basically says nothing can be done other than low temperature germination seed!
In reality there is no discussion about what attempts have been taken to reduce the vulnerability to frost and high rainfall. There are no obvious plans. No reflection. No questions as to what extra the club could do. No questions as to why the current arrangements have failed.
The low germination seed will not counter frost and/or heavy rain.
Basically it seems to be a ‘put our head in the sand’ and hope response.

The bloody country is bankrupt, we only have to look around. This country spent £112 billion in 22/23 paying interest on our national debt. Roughly 10% of the country’s output from all sectors.
    Madness.

Ah yes another crook feathering his own nest, and yet it’s legal. Newark is about as deprived as St John’s Wood .

Doesn't the rain run between the covers as it isn't one cover for the whole pitch? or is it just that it reduces the amount by enough that it shouldn't mean games are off. My only worry would be that you would have lines across the pitch that were sodden that could cause issues

Other than installing undersoil heating I'm not sure what you want them to do about the frost. Covers only do so much and you can have the best covers in the world but they won't be able to do anything if the pitch is freezing during a game like it did in the Liverpool game. As for the waterlogged pitch again, we have been unlucky with timings. If the Stockport game didn't happen I'm sure the pitch would be in a much better state than it is now. Before this season we've not had a game postponed due to a waterlogged pitch for a while so clearly the pitch & drainage had been standing up to the rain.
If we have games postponed for waterlogged pitches in the next season or 2 then you would have a point but at the moment I don't see what you expect them to do to fix the issue when there is so little time between home games and with winter weather.
They've verti drained the pitch a lot to help drainage and a cover on the most vulnerable area by the TL Dallas Stand

I would think you could put a plastic gutter type of system which could be removed when the covers were lifted. It must be solve-able otherwise other clubs wouldn’t use the system.

Basically the club needs to have a meeting with some of these manufacturers and look at the fine details.

The ‘plant some temperature germination seed’ option, basically seems to be ….ing in the wind! It is verging on do nothing knew.

Agree the club seem to be doing nothing adventurous probably based on risk v reward but those covers highlighted don’t provide a solution to heavy persistent rain. They confirm it in their blurb Rod.

Just a thought but.....if the pitch was completely dug up, plus a bit more.
Drainage laid to drain onto the track around the pitch.
Soil replaced (on top of drainage), then the pitch raised slightly like Old Trafford is, would that cure the problem I wonder?
Hopefully all the rain water would soak through the track, leaving the pitch OK?

    OK, I'll get mi coit!!!

Dave Pendleton has a long term involvement with Bantams Past. You could use this link to get in touch with him. https://bantamspast.net/contact/

l have the Bantams Past books, a proverbial mine of information, well worth getting copies if you are interested in the history of the club.

The game was cancelled twice. Once before kick off and I think half time (the photo supplied)
It was was finally played a few days after the 'official' season had ended (from memory).
The fully completed game was memorable mainly for Big Bobby chinning Fash the Bash and getting away Scot free. I was at both games and also schlepped up to Odsal for the called off game too.

I think it is clear that many supporters feel something needs to be done, not just with the pitch, but also the whole club
    modus operandi.
Its also clear that Mr Rupp will only move on, when his terms are met.
So how do we move on.
Is the strength of feeling just a good old whinge, or do fans actually want to bring about change?
We need to move away from finger pointing and saying i am not willing to help, as Mr Rupp is a multi millionaire.
It is our club and we were here well before him and hopefully will be here well after he has moved on.
So, how about come season ticket time, if the club continue selling tickets cheap. We all put £20 into an account held by the supporters trust. 10000 adults is £200,000, we could then approach the club to see if they or Mr Rupp would be willing to match said amount to try and improve the playing surface.
If not the money could be returned, or used elsewhere.

Very good points. There have been occasions in the past couple of seasons when we have had continuous rain and my lawn has been under water and not only has the game been on but he pitch looked immaculate. Stockport game aside, something has been done that shouldn't have. Yes frost (and even the covers) will kill off the grass but those drains that were installed looked very good on the video the club put out. I don't think the fibre sand that we use helps but the pitch looks like it has been rolled to be honest, which will have compacted the sand and soil, it doesn't matter how good the drains are, if the rain water can't get down to those drains it's irrelevant. As a side note I have heard that the Grossman wasn't in favour of using fibre sand.

The other half said exactly the same. However, he also said that the groundsman had to get games on and with no grass they had to roll it hard to provide a playing surface. Nevertheless the damage done to the pitch with frost and torrential rain is the real culprit. Not sure there is anything they can do until we can start the summer work.

As I said in a previous post we spent a lot of money a few years ago on the pitch and it was perfect for a couple of seasons. Surely there should be a comeback on the company who did the work after its complete collapse
