I believe it’s now the policy to give 3 years contracts let’s face it if the players fail they move on or are loaned out. Yes occasionally one or two may get a pay off. But it stops the annual are they aren’t they going to sign a new contract

At city he’s a guaranteed starter and with that, opportunity to gain experience and expand skill set. He seems to value his peers as well as his coaches - good leadership and coaching is vital to any organisation and person in it. On top of this, he has the return from the club who hugely value him, especially at supporter level. At 25yrs he’s old enough to make a mature decision but young enough to have time on his hands to think long term - something which I’d like to think he will do given his career so far.

I appreciate a footballers professional career is a short one. This guy didn’t think he had any career in front of him up until a year ago so that’s why I think it’s in his interest to stay with us, at least one more year should interest come in for him. He strikes me as a smart enough individual who will be able to decide the right decision should it come to it.

Loans can definitely make a huge difference at this level. It's risky but you just can't get the type of quality at this level that you can with a successful loan.

Agreed, it's never seemed that difficult to move players on, even those under contract.

We've even managed to bag an 'undisclosed' for one or two.

Oli Crankshaw, Sam Hornby, and Levi Sutton all spring to mind. None of them will probably have generated much money, it's just about shifting them on.

That’s fair. From the players point of view 3 years of security for slightly less remuneration monthly than a two year means they can at least settle down . As you say if it doesn’t pay off…..but if it does!
