What makes you think he did not do “favourably on his brief loan spells”?

Yes was doing really well at Brighouse.

Played for City against Leeds United at Thorp Arch, Farsley Manager there and liked him, Took him and then did not use him. City then placed him at Liversedge doing well there until injured in January. Late April before playing again.

Looks like he did very well at Brighouse, but the move up to Farsley didn't do him any favours, just 119 minutes across 4 appearances in the National League North. Had a run at Liversedge as well in the Northern Premier for the last half of the season.

As he's approaching 20, I'd imagine the club try send him out on loan again to the NLN and if there isn't a great amount of progress, he'll not be offered a deal next summer. The downside to not having an U21s/Reserve team, these lads cant afford to be given the time to grow unless it's loans around the area.

How is Noah Wadsworth coming along? I think he went to Tadcaster on loan.
He looked impressive at Left Back v Sunderland in the pre-season friendly last season.

He left Southampton because he was on the bench. So not only do they have to satisfy our needs they also have to satisfy his. Going into a higher league they might want him as a second.

I wonder how our sales of goal keeper replica kits went this year compared to previous.

Not sure on that but did Sparks say we were £300k up on previous years?

I remember @Fordy117@Fordy117 having a fit last summer because he couldn't get his XXL shirt before July 1st.

My opinion, Noah, like Sam Bentley, Freddy Jefferys and Jay Tinsdale can only get better if Bradford City look after them . But like all the other Youth players mentioned Bradford City spend time and effort giving them good coaching and progress them through the Academy then sign them for one or two years on Professional Contracts only to let them stagnate and then release them.

This group of young players have been playing football together for Bradford City since they were 13/14 they know each other they are confident, work well for each other and trust in each others ability, Bradford City should try and find a way to continue the development .

Go away with your reasoned logic and sensible post. There's no room for common sense on here.

Trouble is many fans including some on here don’t like development squads they want all the money to go on the first team

If anyone offers 500K for Lewis, Rupp will bend over and lube up. In fairness though, he'll ensure every single penny of that first £100k is reinvested back into the club.

Time will tell, Bradford City released a number of players on concluding their Scholarships this year, following trials with Championship clubs they have earned places in the clubs Development squads for next season.
    If only…..

Dylan Mottley Henry picked up a development squad place with Barnsley and we all know how that turned out.

The difference is that championship sides possibly have the surplus money to run a development squad and seemingly take on these "cheaper" lads in order to fill out their squads because like our youth team, they'll still only have a couple of "maybes" in the group.

Give us some names of these scholars that earned places and if any of them play at that particular club within the next 3 or 4 years I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong.

Best case scenario imo, is one of them ends up back at this level in the pro game but can we really afford to spend all that money on a development squad that "might" develop league 2 quality players?

This is one to look at further down the line assuming we're able to grow the club and find ourselves in a much higher division imo.

bit worse than that, he was on the bench 3 times in the PL and only played 3 fa cup games with them. He made around 40 appearances in the 8 years he was with the U23s and also made 38 appearances the one season he was out on loan which was with dundee united.

In his first season here, he already has his most apps with a single club which is at 55!

I really dont think a club will go for him as

    1. Its his first season in english football
    2. Like you said, would he go higher up just to be on the bench again?
    3. Even if someone does go for him its a year left so would have to offer big money which for ‘keepers in the lower leagues is unheard of.

With all respect to you it’s not for me to give names of the players involved. I
Cannot disagree with your point of view, I hold the same opinion. It’s more a case of why go to all the trouble of running your Academy the cost associated with the Academy then curtail the Development of your youth players. Playing for a month or two ( with no disrespect to ) Brighouse, Pontefract, Ramsbottom is not developing your players.

The benefit of the Academy at the moment seems to be selling 13/14/15 year olds to PL clubs for decent money. That pays for the Academy and leaves a bit left over to plough into the first team budget.

Sparks said we have the best Cat 3 Academy in the country and he does not see the attraction of Cat 1/2 status and the costs involved.

Interesting that we will be employing a youth recruitment team going forward.

How many players coming through the Academy have we sold in the past, say, 7 years whether to a PL club or any other club for that matter?

It's a genuine question which I've asked previously. I struggle to think of more than 2. The total return of those two was upto £450k spread over a number of years. As a reference point, that's about the benchmark cost of running a Cat 3 for a single season.

The club are quite coy about it. The one's I've heard about are one to Brighton and the keeper to Leeds.
Apparently Brexit has been a real benefit as PL clubs can't sign youngsters from Europe anymore. They are having to look further down the pyramid.
