Won’t they be limited by the same FFP we are governed by?

If it is £5, that's crazy money. In 2022, Newcastle got £5M per season from Fun88, Leeds got £6M from Sbobet and Villa got £6M that season from Cazoo.

If I remember rightly, promoted clubs get a bit of a let off for the first season. I think it's something around players already under contract don't count towards FFP for the first season, it's just people they sign from when the window opens. It was designed to let your Harrogate and Barrow types get to speed with the league...... where as now it gives your Wrexham, Notts and Stockport types a bit of a free hit of spending.

Like this past season, Stockport used their FFP leash to blow the budget out, ending spending more on agent fees than all but 5 or 6 L1 teams and even more than Reading in the champ, level with Rothetham in the champ. They can't do that this season, but their squad is massive as it is.

Reynolds has a 49m following on Instagram. A few tweets from him and that £5m 'advertising money' has paid for itself.

Yeh thats correct. I think they only look at a percentage of the wages from players already under contract.

Anyway, Wrexhams turnover will be huge in comparison to other L2 clubs given all these commercial deals they have so they will be able to comfortably spend a budget probably 3 or 4 times more than their nearest rivals.

"Clubs in the League 1 and League 2 operate within a Spending Constraint framework termed Salary Cost Management Protocol (SMCP). SCMP limits spending on player wages to a percentage of club Turnover. In League 1 clubs can spend a maximum of 60% of their turnover on wages - in League 2, the limit is 55%. There are no restrictions (in themselves) on the amount a club can lose or spend on transfer fees."

So as long as they can keep these huge sponsors coming in then they can spend what they like. The only constraint is that they can only spend so much of their turnover (55%) but when theirs is going to be massive then it doesnt really matter.

Their whole journey so far with Wrexham has been more than funded by their 'Hollywood' popularity and to be fair to them they've hit a home run. The 'Welcome to Wrexham' TV series, the internationally known sponsors, the involvement of other celebrities with huge social media followings, it has brought a global audience and millions in revenue off the back of it. I actually admire what they've done, its unique in its approach although it helps when you have tens. of millions of followers.

This is why I think it's hilarious they want 3 up 3 down when the National League doesn't comply with FFP. It almost makes it attractive as a mid to lower table league 2 team to gamble in getting relegated, spend what you want the season after and if it pays off, come back up the season after as a top 6 side in league 2.

Yes, no sour grapes from me. They saw an opportunity, took a chance and so far so good. Wonder what shirt sales are like outside of Wales/Cheshire. Bet they send a few out to North America....

I still live in hope Dwayne Johnson will fancy dipping his toe into the League 2 market and add Bradford to his portfolio.

In that case, maybe it’s time that the league looked into reducing the amount newly promoted clubs can spend against turnover if they bring massive wage bills from the national league. Seems an unfair advantage on the rest of the clubs in league 2 who may not have the financial clout of the Wrexham, Notts County or Stockports. Looking at the National League, it appears you’ll only get out of it if you have a wealthy owner to pump money in.

It helps but never a certainty. Salford and Stockport havent had it their own way.

Fair play to the Wrexhams and the Salfords of this world but I would much prefer a meritocracy rather money counts for everything. Teams like Burnley a small town Northern club who overachieve. They overcame a period of adversity and have stormed back Luton the same this season.
I know if the same thing happened to us we wouldn’t be complaining but for the sport itself good governance is better than who has the deepest pockets

That is just what I was thinking. You get to leap frog from NL into LG2 and gain generous concessions over your LG2 rivals. It has a familiar ring to the PL/Championship parachute payments.

An american actor - probably worth a billion now. Good friends with Reynolds, owns the XFL (NFL lite), a production company, a tequila brand and part owner of Under Armour. Im sure he can find some time for L2 football....

PS he also looks like the wrestler The Rock.
