I think your making the mistake of thinking wing backs are set in stone. Hughes has made it clear he wants the option of playing different set ups to match the opposing sides. He has probably only played wing backs so far to familiarise the player with a new way of playing

You seem to be completely ignorant to the fact these clubs who are pushing the boat out, are probably playing catch-up up to us in terms of player budget - exceptions being Salford and Stockport. Wrexham are obviously dining at a different table to everyone else.

We might fall a little down the order this season, but our playing budget has still increased and will still be around top 5. That is extremely competitive at our level and sufficient to be successful with. Having the top budget has done nothing for the likes of Salford. Keep that in mind.

Big budgets aren't a guarantee of success. Salford have spent big since day one and are still stuck in this league.
Meanwhile clubs with very modest budgets like Stevenage and Morecambe both got promotion in the last few seasons.

We went in for him 5-6 weeks ago and were told to wait nearer the end of pre-season. We’re approaching that time where they need to decide. They have just signed Morgan Whittaker, which could help our cause, but conversations have fallen quiet over the past week.

That makes sense to me. I believe he was playing as a LWB there so that offers some attacking competition for Ridehlagh. He is also useful in a forward role.

That solves 2 problems at half the price.

Isn't there an equivalent winger still at a PL club we can look at who hasn't just gone to an L1 club and failed to impress?

 

Think he was signed for cover at Plymouth based on what he did here I am sure he would be a perfect pick. Especially has he has been playing wing back

 

Same here, lad couldn't wait to bugger off. I don't blame him for taking the opportunity but almost feels a bit dirty wanting him back, like taking back a cheating ex.
