I mentioned him earlier in the thread. I know someone who was mates with his parents. Was on £25k a week at Everton - played 5 PL games in 9 years. Crazy money all things considered.

Michael Jacobs be a cracking signing - more likely had we gone up so little chance now. Looks like a return to Northampton anyway,

Yes, all the big clubs wanted him when he was at Leeds. He spent time at Arsenal but ended up at Everton on big bucks.

Wrong side of 30 now, but a good, top end League 1 player a few years ago.

Exactly. As many years before, most, if not all, of the signings will be players we've seen play only once or twice, if at all! Names don't always work out, as we all know!

We could all name one or two 'good' players, like Conor Grant for example, released by Plymouth, but given we're in League Two, we might just be back to signing 23 year olds from Hartlepool United.

We signed Odusina from Hartlepool a player that impressed me more than any other the season before last and was highly rated by their fans he got blamed for a poor performance against Northampton when Smallwood was largely to blame and we hardly saw him again.

I think we cast our net quite wide, as signing as a small group of players could have been disastrous in Hughes' first season in charge at this level.

We had to find out who could and couldn't play modern, high level football, and I guess Odusina was one of those who struggled.

The threads are still there on the Hartlepool forum, but when he left they were saying from experience, when he plays in a back 4 he is very suspect and his lack of physicality stands out. When he was in a back 3/5 he was a completely different defender who played with far more confidence when he had another CB near him.

So basically needs a babysitter at the side of him. Not sure i want a defender who can only play IF Hughes decides to go away from a back four.

It was getting bullied by Wootton for 45 minutes that did for him. MH hooked him at half time and brought Songo'o on.
    I don't think we've seen him since.

To me he's one of the defenders who will probably be better higher up, when defenders use their feet more than their head and the actions are quicker, than L2 when every game or two you'rehaving to fend off a 6'3 striker. These lads who come through Premier academy's today just aren't used to the physicality of lower league football.

Not going to write the lad off, he's 23 and has only 35 EFL appearances under his belt, plenty of time to grow. From seeing how he coped against Northampton and Stockport, he needs proper coaching on how to deal with physical forwards.

Eh, there are always players who don't get much game time - we had Crichlow and Platt both dropped from the first team but when they got a chance they took it.

    Odusina didn't.

Like @Jordan@Jordan says, it might be because he's a back 3 defender or something. That would become clear to Hughes in training.

May be totally wrong but he was injured in pre season, struggled to catch up in fitness and made a couple of errors when he played.

I'd happily give him the pre-season to get fit and see how he goes. His attitude will tell us a lot. If he's up for it and fit then we'll know his head and heart are with us and we should give him a chance to see what he can do.

As @Park bantam@Park bantam said, he was excellent when we played them in March 22.
    There's a player in there.

Rubbish. MH will want to play his strongest team at all times. Odusina just hasn't cut the mustard in training alongside quite a few others it would seem. Periera for example.

He's turned down a new contract.
