I'd be amazed if we didn't. Wood & Hendrie are on a par, would you be happy with Luke Hendrie because I wouldn't. Just about the only thing that Edin did right was decide hendrie wasn't good enough, even if his way of rolling him was wrong. I'm thinking v2 bomb on Whitechapel was more subtle

 

Was a right winger every time we played them he was their best player whenever we played them

 

I like Hornby. Our defence always seemed much calmer and less panicked in front of him than with O'Donnell.

 

They will need serious recruitment like us.

Yeah, I get it, but this whole situation just feels a bit unimaginative. I was told we were signing Stockton too. Done deal etc.

My gut tells me we'll sign Songo'o, but we'd have signed Threlkeld by now in my humble opinion.

 

But they're both primarily defensive midfielders who play 40-ish games a season.

I don't know if it's a hint or just the continuation of an unimaginative rumour mill.

Adams signed two players for Morecambe that he'd worked with before as far as I can tell. I don't know why he's supposedly signing every player he's ever managed now.

Stockton? No. The lad in Bulgaria? No. One by one the lazy rumours are falling down.

Songo'o I'm buying, I can't see him leaving Morecambe otherwise. Threlkeld is just one of a million players released at L2 level, less spectacular.

We'll find out, and maybe you're spot on and I'm completely wrong, but I don't think we'll sign Threlkeld AND Songo'o. Our next couple of signings I bet we've never heard of, and at least one will be Scottish at a guess.

Oh, one last point on the Songo'o + Threlkeld thing...

Adams has already hinted that some of Morecambe's players are looking to earn as much as possible.

“I don’t know where their future lies,” added Adams. “That’s up to the players.

“From my point of view, I’m casting an eye over the whole division and looking to see what we can do.

“You saw with Morecambe last year that we gave players an opportunity and they took that and did really well.

“Then they are able to go and ask for more money than they were on last year because of the season they’ve had – and quite rightly so."

Reading between the lines, Stockton has asked for a pay increase to play in L1 and he's got it; that Songo'o decided to leave doesn't suggest to me he's looking to drop back down to L2 when he can get paid more at a higher level.

I'd feel a lot less cynical about signing all those ex-Morecambe and Plymouth lads if there wasn't just this great big assumption that he's going to clean out his old teams. He doesn't have a hold over those players, they aren't bound to him at the hip. They'll take the best offers they can, the question is, can we offer Yann the best possible deal, and do we even want Threlkeld after he was deemed a failure at Salford?

When he says he "gave players an opportunity" and that they then went to "ask for more money", it sounds to me like he signed cheap - and it sounds to me like he's going to do so again.

Sorry to break some hearts out there, but I think it's unrealistic.

 

Threlkeld operated as a right back under Adams at Plymouth. Playing LB and CM in occasion. Fact is we need all three of those positions filling.

Competent utility men hard to find at this level and a very welcome addition to any squad.

PS check his career stats. Threlkeld is not primarily a MF. He has over double the amount of appearences in DF.

 

Threlkeld unrealistic and breaking hearts, I’m not sure most fans are that bothered Jon tbh just a rumour most likely built on Adams’ track record and we need someone in the positions he can cover. I’m not sure hearts will be broken if he doesn’t come

 

I meant more along the 'we can easily sign anyone Adams might want' thing.

One player that seems to fit the bill better than Yann Songo'o and/or Oscar Threlkeld in terms of being a typical Derek Adams-type signing would have been Levi Sutton - and we both know he didn't exactly whet the appetite for a lot of forum users when we brought him in last season!

Cheap, played in the division, needs an opportunity to prove himself, hungry, work rate, versatility, etc.

But then I've been beating the same drum since we signed Adams as manager - it's important the fanbase gets behind his signings no matter how, err... underwhelming they might appear.

Then again, if every signing is a Songo'o or a Cook, we're laughing!

 

He has played Defensive midfielder for the last two years but can play right back or in central defence and with a Squad of 22 that could be invaluable

Yeah I also think utility men will be key this season for teams wanting to go up. Also, the squad registration rules for this season have dropped from 22 players to 20 players over the age of 21.

 

FCD, Staunton, Sikora, Scales and Watt won't need registering.

Yeah we have enough youth for it not to be a huge problem. Watt does need registering, he turned 21 in March. It's their age from July 1st they sanction the registration from, so if your 21 before July 1st, you'll need registering.
