I was even sadder. I had a proper cricket scorebook that I spent hours filling in each match I played.

 

Didn't we all.
I remember sitting in a beach hut at Broadstairs and we'd not taken it with us, but my Grandfather got out his tiny silver pen knife and cut up a hexagonal pencil, scraped the paint off and improvised a set.

 

Bloody hell Rod, can’t agree more. Reading it myself and was just thinking similar. Cracking thread, glad to see our fans of a certain age reminiscing about simpler past-times. FWIW, my subbuteo days started late 60’s. Never seen the cricket game though.

 

I’ve mentioned in the past on another thread that my cousin is married to one of the Carters that had the toy shop in Bradford. Definitely the go-to place for EVERYTHING toy related when I was a kid in the early 70’s.
Definitely had an extensive choice of Subbuteo related stuff and was always a joy working your way up each floor before you reached your destination.

Clearing my parents' loft earlier this year, I found my brother's old Subbuteo set. Unsurprisingly for him, there was an Ipswich team, plus a West Ham team and for some reason a Swedish world cup team.
The goals are missing, but there is so much stuff we are sorting through, we may find them yet.
Mum and Dad never threw anything away. Also up there was my 1950s push along toy dog (Barney) and a little Chad Valley red metal rocking horse, in the toy section.

 

Used to play that at my grandma's house waiting for Sunday dinner to cook.

 

I had a little look when I saw your set and saw them being valued at £50 to £60. Whether you'd get that or not though obviously depends on the condition.
