Moved house about 5 years ago and have been in the loft hundreds of times but today I noticed an old wooden box. Opened it to find an old/antique Subbuteo set including players in our kit. The box includes pitch and goals etc. Not sure if there is a ball as I’ve not got it all out yet due to the boy wanting to help.

Any of our older members recognise it, or help with dating?

Very old judging by the players not being moulded plastic. Get it on the bidding room.

It looks like the 50s/60s subbuteo fivesides sets. It's very collectible if in good condition.

Had a look and the set 19 - Bradford was made in 49 and 50s.

need to get it out and look at the goals and pitch later

Great find. It's probably from mid to late 50's and to Subbuteo collectors, it's known as a 'flats' set because of the two dimensional players.

There is at least one FB group where some of the Subbuteo nerds/collectors hang out. It might be worth your while checking whether the groups are still going and to make contact with them

Be careful with those cardboard players they soon get injured and there were no substitutes back then.

I wish I had the cardboard ones. I was forever kneeling on mine then gluing them back together with Airfix cement. They got shorter and shorter til I ended up with a team of Fordy's midgets

After getting them out they are the celluloid ones so 1950s as @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey suggested but not the Five a side version as it is full length pitch. 861C35C9-FD7B-49E6-832E-B7C946E02A1D.jpeg 871B9010-FA52-489C-84C8-AB8F51BD629B.jpeg 0C80539C-1676-4CA5-8F65-B2C58B2BDA26.jpeg

If the players are card then they are somewhere 1947 to mid 50's. These were replaced with celluloid two dimension flats which were replaced by the three dimensional we probably all remember in 1961.

My current guess is between 53-56 due to a few different things.

Brings back memories of mid 50's for me. Subbuteo and 'owzthat'. (a simple cricket dice game) were all we needed. Never managed floodlights and the stuff that came later. What a fab find Storck, well done mate.
