His middle stint was more than acceptable
Was it nearly 2 years undefeated at home and decent attacking football
Should never have been sacked that year

He’s obviously put his heart into it for a club we all care about and tried his best. Not many of us would walk either as we care so deeply for BCFC.
To carry on slagging him after his sacking is uncalled for. Let’s move onBronco, NorthernMonkey, WilsdenBantam and 8 others like this. -

An unbeaten season at home was a solid achievement in League One. Won’t be many/any who could have achieved that.
Credit must be given for his play off final season, we were 34 mins plus penalties away from promotion to the Championship, something we haven’t achieved since 1996. He bettered Parkinson’s effort the season before.
His League 2 efforts have been woeful though. Bizarre really, compared to how well he did in L1.Briggus, Skyebantam and Morley Bantam like this. -
He’s been a terrible manager. Should never have got the job. Do we really care about his win percentage? Let’s look forward, stop talking about Parkinson, banging on about the league cup run and McCall the player and look forward to trying to get of this hole we’re in.King Cole, WilsdenBantam and chris mac like this. -

Hmmm...Has a recently-banned poster, named after a former player, reappeared?
I know this idea about the playoff side being Parkinson's team has been addressed here before, but I can't find the post I'm thinking of. That idea is simply not true. That side was a nice combination of Parkinsonian carry-overs complemented by players brought in under McCall, either by him alone or with the input of others. A few "homegrown" players also made it into league matches. Simplifying things and just considering under which manager a (non-homegrown) player came to the club:
Those who made 15+ league appearances:
McCall: Law, Knight-Percival, Doyle, Dieng, Vincelot, Jones, Wyke, Hiwula, McNulty, and James Hanson
Parkinson: Billy Clarke, Cullen, Darby, Marshall, McArdle, McMahon, Meredith, Morais
Cullen I suppose could go into both lists.
Those with under 15 appearances:
McCall: Kilgallon, Sattelmaier, Rabiega, Pybus, Vukcic, Gilliead, Penney, Toner
Parkinson: Anderson

As for the "last couple of seasons", McCall was in post for less than a year, and season, and had exactly one transfer window to work with. And despite previous comments, it seems clear that he knows as well as any of us that the recruitment was not adequate. It also seems reasonable to suggest that there were outside factors influencing that recruitment, and not in a good way. It does seems that he did not have as free a hand as he would have wished.

The legacy from his last spell was that listening to his, bad tempered, post match interviews was more entertaining than watching his team play.

Going undefeated at home, and the overall excellent defensive record of that season, are certainly things to remember and yes, give Stuart a lot of credit for.
Overall this is another case of a star player not reaching the same heights as manager. From another sport, a clear parallel is Wayne Gretzky -- in the running as greatest player ever, but only middling, adequate, as coach. I suppose, as has been mentioned here recently, Alan Dowson would be an example in the other direction -- more successful as a manager than player.

As for the point that he shouldn't have been sacked......I thought it was harsh at the time but looking back at it these were his final results.
Wimbledon 2 - 1 Bradford - LOSS (21st)
Bradford 1 - 3 Peterborough - LOSS (6th)
Bradford 3 - 2 Oxford - WIN (12th)
Fleetwood 1 - 2 Bradford - WIN (12th)
Yeovil 2 - 0 Bradford (FA cup) - LOSE (bottom - league 2)
Bradford 1 - 2 Northampton - LOSE (21st)
Bristol R 3 - 1 Bradford - LOSE (17th)
Rotherham 2 - 0 Bradford - LOSE (7th)
Bradford 0 - 4 Wimbledon - LOSE (20th)
Oldham 2 - 1 Bradford - LOSE (22nd)
Not many managers can get through a run of 8 losses in 10 games when you're supposedly chasing promotion. Especially when 5 of those teams are fighting relegation and another one is towards the bottom of the league below!
it was silly of him to agree that he needed to get 7 points from his final 3 gamss (or whatever it was) but if that run of form was put together by any manager not called McCall I doubt there would be complaints in the same situation.Gardscoigne likes this. -
Pointless thread which proves our inability to move on.
How many McCall threads are needed. I’m not sure Jose Mourinho would be talked about as much at Chelsea and he won them 3 tittles. We need to get over it and quickly.WilsdenBantam likes this. -

He's gone. Can we stop trying to trash his record, let sleeping dogs lie and let his legend rebuild itself with time in the same way that Ryan McGowan became Bobby Moore because he didn't play.
Let's just move on and hope that the new bod can build himself a new epoch.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Bronco likes this. -
I'm happy to move on over time but I really didn't think it was that weird to look back on what a manager has or hasn't achieved in the days following their departure.Andy10 likes this. -
