If Jamie Raynor had conducted that interview, Rupp wouldn’t have got off so lightly. He’s not afraid to prod and poke to get to the nitty gritty of the subject. It’s probably one of the reasons why he’s moving onto bigger things. What a wasted opportunity by Parker. He’s waited 4 years to speak to the man and that was the best he could do.

Ironically your post is below a very good post from @Fuzzy@Fuzzy explaining how the owner of Scunthorpe has pumped good money after bad over many years trying to bring them success to no avail, I'd love Rupp to back Hughes next season with the best player budget in league two but as Fuzzy says unless its spent correctly you can finish up with massive problems.
    Regards
    Happy clapper ;)

Fair kop, it's the Swann family that is worth around 4 times what Rupp is worth.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20131231000208/http://www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk/New-Scunthorpe-United-chairman-Peter-Swann/story-18837944-detail/story.html

But I believe the club is owned, or at least backed, by the Swann family, at least according to the above

You say that Scunthorpe didn't have success but I think they got into the Championship (maybe twice?).
I'm sure that felt like success to them at the time.

Think Rod is more right regarding the Swann family money, most of the value of which has come from the Wilkinson (Wilko Stores) side historically. Having abandoned their apparent plans for a new stadium some time ago it will be interesting to see what happens to the Club if, as seems increasingly likely, they get relegated. This is a situation they seem to have accepted weeks ago by keeping Keith Hill and Tony Mac rather than disposing and paying contracts up. If I were an Irons fan I'd be concerned, I think.

Quite happy to be corrected, but the figures are the only ones I could readily access in the public domain for the Swann family. They seem to have made the bulk of the wealth through the sale of Karin Swann (nee Wilkinson) share of the Wilko chain to her sister. Having looked at the list of Director’s the Wilkinson’s do not appear to be involved in Scunthorpe. It may well be that @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler can point to some other links.

Yes they did 2007 and again in 2009 unfortunatly as ourselves the money pumped into both clubs could not see either clubs sustain their previous success even the small fortune Peter Swan (not sure if he was the owner during those times) has pumped in trying to bring back the good times hasn't worked.
Athough Parky brought us recent sucsess for Scunthotpe it's 12 years and 23 for ourselves, It's been quoted many times on here you can have a sugar daddy owner but the money has to be spent correctly.

The only link I see is the marriage link through Karin Swann to her husband. I would imagine their finances are largely joint and if so then that's the Wilkinson link. Deciding enough is enough will be the likely reason for the abandoned new stadium scheme, linked to the fact that the existing site was worth a lot for an extension of the adjoining retail park but retail in that form is not a runner at this time which probably accounts for a lot of issues. Can't add to that as my view of things.

Took over on 24/05/13, prior to that had involvement with Gainsborough FC as director. So no he wasn’t a director of Scunthorpe in 2007-2009.

After reading part two of Parkers interview with Rupp he is more than happy with the way we are going, especially off the pitch, we're are in a strong financial position thanks to Ryan and his team.

So my comment with regards Peter Swann was correct, during his tenure at the club ploughing money in has not brought the club success ;).

Interesting, anyway, I think the important part is the owner's value is no guarantee of success, although there's no doubt Scunthorpe have been performing terribly in recent years.

Not being an Irons fan I don't know why that is exactly - Swann appears to have an interest in football, but perhaps he isn't very good at it.

Taking a cursory glance at them, honestly, the way Swann has run Scunthorpe doesn't seem to be a million miles away from the way Rupp has run Bradford City.

We've ended up signing several ex-Scunthorpe players these last few years, after all, and I know our fans have touted Keith Hill ad nauseum in the past, despite only ever doing a decent job at one club. Still, he's a 'proven' lower league manager who works to a budget, like Adams. They've got a couple of players I've read recommended on this very forum, Harry Bunn and Anthony Grant, for example, players I could have seen us signing the way we've recruited in recent years.

But there are some real obvious issues outside of that:

Their forwards have some of the eye-wateringly bad goalscoring records.
They don't have an experienced senior goalkeeper.
They've only got 2 players that have started 30+ league games.
Since Graham Alexander left, they've had an excessive number of managers (8 managers since March 2018)

    All red flags.

I could be wrong, but I imagine Swann has done exactly what Rupp's done in terms of hiring managers; flip-flopped back-and-forth, paid little attention to the style of the manager, and largely just hoped and prayed a manager came along and fixed everything, while they played 'Football Club Director' focussing on follies like new stadia, 'building the business', and other such things.

Fact is, at this level everyone has to have a good understanding of the game, everyone has to be able to bounce ideas off of everyone else. Hopefully, we, as a club, can start doing that going forward with really knowledgeable people, and just be thankful we didn't get as badly wrong as Swann at Scunny as they spiral towards non league.

I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind would want the club to grow in an unsustainable way! To grow the club unsustainably is nonsensical dream weaving, guaranteed to end badly.
Growing the business commercially, increasing revenue off the pitch to plough into the playing budget is the only sensible way to take the cub forward (unless we do a Newcastle and find a Middle Eastern royal family looking for a toy).
If I have a criticism/ disappointment with Rupp it’s his failure to deliver any commercial ties with companies, organisations or partner businesses in Germany. We’re still reliant on Ryan delivering revenue via local businesses which will only take the club so far. With his contacts across Europe and beyond we should be looking to increase our profile way beyond the West Yorkshire area, we should aspire to be a St Paulie, fc Venicia, etc.
Bloody hell in terms of international brand recognition were behind Forrest flipping Green!!

Weird political climate to suggest the Middle Eastern royal families are super secure long term, lol, I'd say they definitely are not a good example of that.

I thought the Wilko part of the family has no involvement in Scunthorpe any more, The family split and one side took over ownership
