Crikey - At least "we're 5-6 steps ahead" by promoting an in-house manager and have a chairman that knows everything; otherwise we'd be really screwed!

I'm still not sure what happened last season.

It's too simplistic to call them bottlers, because their form didn't just dip, it absolutely imploded.

There has to be a cause for that, and it's not just a bad performance and loss at Yeovil in the cup.

Perhaps we'll have to wait for an autobiography before we really find out the truth.

There’s at least another 6 incoming fret not shrews we’re favourites to go down last year, marquee signings never work for us we need to build and that’s what they are doing let’s give them chance ffs

here’s a novel idea let’s support the team

    Agreed, hence the pessimism.

IF we can bring in 2 or 3 real quality pros then I might change my mind but at present I don't believe we're anywhere near even being competitive.

I'm sure that we don't have to rely upon cup runs or selling our players. But the reality of our model where the club is designed to break even without any further injection of capital from the owners is that once again it will deliver a mid table playing budget. Contrast that with most other clubs in the division (and certainly all those with promotion intentions) where the club isn't expected to break even, playing budgets are more than their break even level and significantly higher than ours and the club's owners are willing to make up that difference by 'investing' their own money in their club.

Our model is sufficient for the club to tread water until either we have a successful cup run or the gamble on developing and selling future stars begins to pay off. And there is no timescale for that as far as I'm aware.

That's not entirely true. Our ticket income is around £2mill and only one of those clubs had higher income than us last season. The income of another two was very similar to ours. But more importantly, three of the four clubs have owners who are also willing to inject their own capital into the club because they understand that to develop the club on and off the field requires additional investment; the same principle as adopted by most developing/growing capital intensive businesses.

Whatever we might think of other club's approaches, any club which works to break even principles has to gamble on receiving additional revenues from cup runs etc or it is seriously disadvantaged compared to other clubs whose owners inject their own capital into the club.

The clubs formula is fatally flawed, You can either keep your best players and seek success or you can bring them along and sell them weakening the team and staying a lower division development club, The owners should be honest and declare which.

I reckon forgotten man Jones still has a part to play, his goal to game ratio isn’t bad at all.

Interested why no one has Chicksen in their starting 11. I assumed Wood was gonna be back up for him, do people think he's going to be first choice?

Chicksen has shown nothing to warrant a starting spot, so I'm not sure why Wood has to dislodge him. Both of them have a lot to prove so whoever looks the brightest in preseason gets the nod for me.

I'll be quite honest, like many I think your football nous is quite shite, I'm not really arsed whatever you say about my thoughts because the day you agree with me I'd have to seriously question myself.

When all said and done Fordy, you may be right about our squad being shite. But let’s face it, none of us can say that with certainty just yet.

There are far too many unknowns in the squad, players that may be poor or they may prove to be astute signings.

So no, at this point (just as I disagree with the happy clappers), you can’t call the squad shite until we have actually seen them play

How are we falling apart. Our owners have introduced a new model to rebuild and sustain a club whose business plan relied totally and utterly on having cup runs every two years.

Falling apart would be where we were under lawn and Rhodes with no cup income in year three.

Very much so. Although no longer 'damaging' to our finances ......... any potential 'lost revenue' will be missed. But that's business in any format. :)

I agree, there has to be a correlation between money spent and success or else no would do it. Everyone would just pick up cheap cast offs from that no other club wants.

To be fair, Sean Scannell would look out of place between Donny Osmond and David Cassidy

They need to be 6 proven quality players though. We have enough "potential" now and what the young lads need is genuine experience to play alongside and learn from.

Players 24 and upwards who've played a decent number of senior games who can come in and not require time to find their feet.
