Clayton was at Boro not so long ago and must be on a fair wack, so I guess this is balancing the books.
he always gave his all, Big Yann - he leaves with his head held high. Good luck to him.

You've said on other occasions that you prefer evidence to support your arguments and I see nothing wrong in that whatsoever. So let's look at the evidence ...
In recent years, the number of points necessary to get a team into the Top 3 is 80 or more and up to 85 points in some cases.
We currently have 41 points with 20 games to play
We therefore need around another 40 points as an absolute minimum to get into the Top 3. Or if you like, we need on average of 2 points per game for the remainder of the season to even get in with a chance of an automatic spot.
Two points per game is approximately championship winning performance over a whole season. To date, we have accumulated a little under 1.6 pts per game over the previous 26 games. Our results and our current league position indicate we haven't so far produced a run of championship winning performances
Do you seriously believe given our squad and our preparation and our formation and our tactics and our inability to create goal scoring opportunities, we are capable of suddenly looking like a championship winning team?
Well, I don't! We've already blown our golden opportunity of getting an auto spot this season imo and I see nothing to suggest we can make good on our shortcomings. I am more than willing to be proven wrong but I doubt that will happen. There is little to show at this stage that we can even maintain our position in the last playoff place. An auto spot is but a pipe dream. The Original EB, borderlescott, Tony Wilkinson and 8 others like this. -

Players want to play and they are (rightly) always thinking about their next contract and their future.
Hughes wasn't playing him but keeping him as some kind of security blanket, 'just in case'.

If we flop in the second half then this is 100% down to the transfer policy of Hughes & Gent. Anything short of at least a very good push to stay in the playoffs, ie we end up with a fade out to 10th or below, and i'll seriously consider having a year off next season. I'll still buy a season ticket to keep the same seat I have occupied since the Kop went all seater, but might just do the odd game.

My overall worry with this is we are now letting popular lads in the changing room leave. I get Clayton is a leader we’ve bought in but I know for a fact that Foulds, Young and Songo’o were all highly thought of by the other lads and I just think we may be disjointing the squad at the wrong time.
We appear to be playing one in one out but the replacements are much of the same apart from being upgrades. I’m not sure what approach we are taking in this window but I don’t particularly like it.Carts #CTID, bantamdave41, borderlescott and 3 others like this. -

Instead we've given a defensive player to Walsall who operates in positions we have plenty of cover for, and who barely factored this season. -

Makes sense.
With Kelly (CB) and Clayton (CM) coming in, Yann moved down the pecking order in both positions.
Songo'o never did us wrong and deserves game time. He's a Derek Adams player, though, not a Mark Hughes player, and one of the remnants following a near total overhaul.

He was a great player to bring off the bench if winning and wanting to protect.
Problem for us is that we don’t blow teams away 2-3-4 nil and most of the time hanging on.

We have a bloated squad, someone had to move on and you can only move players, if someone else actually wants them.
Odisina is still hear as centre half cover.
Personally i liked Songo, maybe he wanted to play week in week out, but i would not drop any of the current centre halves to accommodate him and he is well down the order for midfield defensive player.1975citygent, ModernBantam, Damo and 1 other person like this. -

If we were to look at this move from an objective point of view :
1) Was Yann a starter? No
2) Was he on a high wage? Probably
3) Is he technically limited? Very
4) Is he a good character in the team? Yes
5) Would he of been happy with the playing time he was getting? I highly doubt it
6) Would Hughes of wanted him to stay? I think he would’ve
7) Is it wise to send another one of our players to a League Two rival? Of course not
I think this is more a case of Yann pushing for a move; rather than Hughes showing him the door. He’s been a model professional from the day he joined our club. Always was willing to put his body on the line. Praised by both Hughes & Adams for his attitude on an off the pitch. Had plenty of experience in the league with promotions under his belt. And he is capable of covering multiple positions. The downsides : Slow, very technically limited, not suited to our style of play. not comfortable on the ball. Lets not make it out that he was Maldini now that he’s gone
Irrespective of his faults, I don’t think Hughes would of wanted to let a player like that leave considering we apparently are going for a promotion push this year. But ultimately, Songo’s contract runs out at the end of the year. He’s getting very little minutes an needs to put himself in the shop window an find a way to get that last big pay day. Obviously; its not ideal giving him to a fellow League Two team but there’s not really much you can do if the player wants the move an we don’t have the luxury of keeping so many players on our books
best of luck to him -

Don't understand where people think players like Songo'o will go. Over half of the league are in the fight for the play offs and in the National League very few teams will be able to pay a sizable amount of his wages so that limits it to a list of 10 at most. If we decide to keep him then he takes up a place in the squad, takes up wages and you risk having an unhappy player at the club. The player himself is also going to want to go to a club fighting at the top end rather than a team at the bottom.

In the 41 seasons of 3 points for a win, 73 points has gotten a side into the top-3 once. But there's a catch -- that was in a 42-match season. Pro-rated to 46 matches, that's 80 points. The lowest total for 3rd in the 46-match seasons has been 75, twice. 73 points does, more often than not (33/41) lead to a top-7 finish.
We are trending in the wrong direction. I agree that our top-3 chances range from slim to none, and slim is just about out of the building. Playoffs remain a reasonable possibility though, always provided we stop the current slide. I can't say that our transfer business so far inclines me to hope...though it is too early to tell with the new players.
