Shrewsbury Town (A) - Saturday 4th

As I said I believe most fans will give him and the team time, how long is another matter, in a way I feel sorry for the guy did he have much choice in taking the job.
I get it that it was a challenge he possibly could not turn down and as an old pro he will know how footballers think ETC but one thing taking a club like Rochdale/Bury on with 3/4,000 home fans, a far different situation at Valley Parade with 14,000+ fans expecting better than last season.
We can only hope all three of the coaching staff are up to thd job, I didn't like the situation or the football that was on show from December onward, after our previous seasons.

 

Think O'Donnell said on Twitter that a total of 8 of their 1st XI played a part.

They then played all their other players v Mansfield that evening (the one with the big brawl at the end).

Either way, it gave our first choice players minutes as everyone was demanding. Given pre-season results are largely irrelevant IMO, I'm personally not that bothered who they were playing.

 

When a striker has the ball in the box, the number of players looking to defend and see off the threat by far outweighs the number of strikers who are trying to score, so most strikers by nature aren't prolific simply through law of averages. If it was the other way round and there were for example 4 strikers up against 2 defenders, then scores would increase dramatically and prolific goalscorers would be available in abundance. So in short, football is set up in a way where it's difficult for strikers to score regularly, so when you find one that does it means that they have a high level of skill which makes them stand out against the pack.

 

That's true Tawheed but in days gone by there just seemed to be a lot more 20+ goals a season strikers around than there are today. Perhaps defenders were more sh*te back then

It will be my first time going to shrewsbury away. Is there anyone who knows the best way to get to the ground from shrewsbury train station.

 

Taxi or bus would be best options

 

I'll be getting the train too, thinks it's a half hour walk. But there's a park and ride service for £1.60 that goes to the retail park next to the ground so that'll probably be easier

And, because of two postponed pre-season friendlies we weren't ready for 4th August after all, and we'll regroup Monday and put it all right.

Collins reckons City are in this for promotion. Be that top two, or top six ?
I really can't see this, but I do see a s l o w start, and a temporary accelerated run, before we drop back off.
So that said, Shrewsbury to narrowly Win, as City continue pre-season preparations.
Whilst the Striking situation is up in the air (CW fit, or not), such a hard game to call in our favour, really.

 

if this season goes as I anticipate it going, (badly) I won't be blaming Collins. the blokes been shoved into a position he is out of his depth in. he didn't apply for the job. I can't blame some guy that's essentially there because no one else would touch us and has been begged to take it on by the person running the show.

as for Shrewsbury - similar team to the team that started at Carlisle - but with Akpan in the side I'd guess - 4231, Miller up front.
fairly comfortable afternoon for the Shrews. 3-1 to the home side. but it's okay because we won't have got "the rub of the green" the referee will have made some "questionable calls" and the players need time to "gel" and their keeper was in "spectacular form"

 

MC didn't have to take the job so he is ultimately responsible for the way the team plays.

As for the game itself well I think we will get a creditable draw.

Harsh. I think if we play 4/2/3/1 we'll be very difficult to beat so I expect a huge number of 0/0 draws this season.
