Come on mate, that’s a bit optimistic. Suggesting Alex ‘sick note’ Jones will be anywhere near the 1st team.

Not sure if we will sign another right-back and where that leaves Riley. Looks like we may be signing Colville, but where does he play? Some reports suggest he’s a midfielder, Forest claim they had the ‘winger’ on trial before he same to us. And we have played him often at right-back.

But in terms of the Shrewsbury game, I just don’t see where the goals will come from. Poor again today and did we even test their keeper(s)? Sick note looks like he’s going to keep the physio in a job again.

Sadly, I’m going 1-0 to the hosts

    I've heard wilder assertions.

@Park bantam@Park bantam keeps telling me Jordan Gibson is a first teamer!

Not sure what team to expect for this game. I’m guessing we’ll be going for 4-2-3-1, partly because we seem to have favoured that in pre season and partly because we barely have a fit and able striker in the squad.

The back 5 I would guess is:

    O’Donnell
    Riley O’Connor Killa Chicksen

But could easily have NKP or McGowen in there and Chicksen could be replaced depending on any further transfer activity.

    Midfield 5:

    Akpan Wright
    Scannell Payne Seedorf

Again fitness could impact this, although not sure who would come in if Akpan or Wright aren’t available.

The striker I assume will be Wyke but again fiiness dependent. I’d be amazed if Jones is fit enough to start so that leaves Miller.

All a bit of a shambles really. How many minutes have the key partnerships (e.g. O’Donnell, O’Connor and Killa, Akpan and Wright, Payne and Wyke etc) played together?

"Oh we got criticised for our defence last season, let's sign a bunch of defenders and some defensive midfielders!"

    Next season:

"Oh we got criticised for our attack last season, let's sign six more strikers in six months like we did when we signed Wyke, Poleon, McCartan, Patrick, Brunker, and Jones."

We feel like we're reacting to situations, as opposed to being proactive. Why the heck have we not brought in a striker to compliment Wyke? Because we're too busy worrying about replacing Wyke if he goes?!

It's the McArdle farce all over again - don't bother giving Rory a reason to stay, and don't bother attracting an adequate replacement either.

Who is in charge of recruitment, and who is accountable?

Oh, that's right - nobody is in charge, so nobody is accountable.

    Great.

I have a question. Why is it that the position teams the length and bredth of the country are struggling to recruit for is forwards/strikers? The main aim of the bloody game is to get the ball in the back of the net (and when you aren't doing that to at least get it on target) but yet players that are able to do this on a regular basis are like an endangered species. Why is that?

There are plenty of footballers who are available who claim to be strikers yes, but my question was about why so few of them are good enough to put the ball in the net on a regular basis.

Because modern coaches are like lemmings always following the latest trends, 3 at the back and other weird formations that end up with no wingers and only one forward means you will have the majority of possession and midfield play but will starve the team and strangle any chances for the one forward, Those forwards that can score under these systems are few and far between hence the price of them,
BTY have always found it funny when these systems fail and result in a poor performance and being behind that they tend to change to 4-4-2 to try rescue the game and the position that a poor system has put them in,

Yet most agree this closed season signings are the best weve had for many a season, maybe its not the players.
