Good point Damo. I would add that the game has become more technical and there is a strong influence of sports science and performance monitoring of its players. I personally, being of the old school, don't see it as an exact science, but there can be no doubting its validity in improving physical performance.There is so much emphasis on diet, playing structures, training regimes and the like, that the game is almost being strangled at times as a spectator sport, by the very nature of its methods. The biggest change being, the effect of the need to be driven by adequate finance to bring about success. Where does experience count in all this...well I'm not sure it does as long as you can adapt to change and have the right man management skills.

 

Great points. I would say that some of the coaching over the last decades has left a lot to be desired. Turned players into robots. Unable to think for themselves on the pitch. Destroyed individuality, flare. Effectively took out risk. Seems like they have recently had a fundamental shift though. All about touch and confidence on the ball. Why youth teams are now winning things internationally
