Jones , McCarten, McGowan,NKP, Reeves,woods, Wyke , Gibson and Kia are the ones near to the 11 that started today. That's nine players before we start dipping into the the rest of the development squad , so we do have depth in the squad but we do need another midfielder and keeper plus the striker situation needs sorting sooner rather than later.

 

Fletcher George Boyd and David Jones played for them so it wasn’t all under 22s.
So it looks like we will be starting with Scannel and Seediorf either side of Wright who looks like he could run all day

 

Why’s that then???

 

100% agree Dennis... If we can get the three quality signings remaining ( inc CW replacement) then we should be there or thereabouts.

 

But I would be astonished if there wasn't more departures with Wyke especially and also NKP, Reeves & Jones the most likely, apart from Wyke none of the others I wouldn't see near the 1st XI

Neither can I, that’s why I said three. They will remain in the 18 imho.

 

We need players like NKP, Reeves and Jones as back up for the bench, it's players like Patrick and Devine that need to go, either on loan or permanently .

 

I think 1 decent striker and our squad will be sufficient to have a decent challenge for top 6. I’d say we look to have almost got at least 2 players in each position, although I accept that some of those players are total unknowns to most on here. However, assuming that they have been signed because they are capable of at least being a L1 squad players then I’d say we’re doing ok.

We’re well stocked in defence and CM. I suppose the main question marks (apart from a striker) are whether the young wingers we have are good enough and also a backup goalkeeper. Am I right in thinking we still have the young kid as number 2?

 

Still haven't brought in the back-up keeper yet, my uneducated guess is they have someone in mind on loan from another club.
It cannot be the poor bloke who started at harrogate, please no.

 

2 strikers minimum (working on probability Wyke is going ), plus another central midfielder and a decent back up keeper for me. Actually starting to feel a bit worried about the keeper situation truth be told. Sykes-Kenworthy nowhere near ready for the first team yet.

 

Calm down. Someone mentioned championship side and I thought best add some accurate perspective and state the truth. I'm not belittling the win or being negative. I'm usually one of the positive ones on here. I can now emphasise a little with the dark side as I made an informative non opinionated post and got pounced on for being self harming etc.

 

Reeves is good enough to start when fit. People have short memories.

 

I didn't say he isn't, I just don't think he will be first choice.

 

Sorry. He gets a lot of slating so I lumped you in that. He ran some games early last season. Our lack of strength in depth meant some injured or out of form had to play whereas ordinarily they would be rested for a few games. I think like you Reeves KP deserve to stay but I would go one step further and say virtually first 11

 

Overheard one of our kit men saying SWFC had 8 first team players playing. Not sure which half they played in, or if they mixed and matched in the two half setups.

 

Out of interest, who would you leave out if you were starting Reeves and NKP?

Depends on opp. I much prefer NKP against a more mobile striker than Killgallon. Reeves could act as quarterback and leave a winger striker out and play 4 5 1. Remember Gill/southend not massively complementary about Wright. Nkp and reeves are hoverers not shoe ins for first 11.

 

Isn't there a rule about having to name at least one "club developed" player in the matchday squad? Surely Danny Devine would top the list of candidates for that unless we're going with GSK as the back-up keeper.

 

I'm surprised and worried Brunkuers getting so much game play.

He tries but has absolutely no end product.

A conference player at best and a waste of a sub seat on matchday IMO
