what an utter shock that a lad who has been consistently told on social media that he's a poor footballer by fans of the club he is contracted to, doesn't want to return to his parent club as his loan club overtake them in league standings.

 

I'd say, congratulations to Shay on promotion to league 1 with Lincoln.

 

I am really not that fussed about him tbh. When he played for us, he was over weight and not fit. He clearly does have talent, but he needs to look after himself. Furthermore he has made it absolutely clear that he does not want to come back. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have had enough of uncommitted players, so if Lincoln want him they can have him. He likes it there so I am guessing his agent will be sorting it out,

 

He’s that good he’s only started 21 times for a L2 side, with a further 12 substitute appearances. He scored 7 times with 3 assists. He hasn’t even been a regular for them.

If Lincoln want him, let them have him. No fee involved







so long as they agree to take Wright, Reeves, NKP and Akpan

Always good to see Lincoln doing well that goes without saying, but that is completely separate issue from whether McCarten comes back. I do not want any player at this club who does not want to be here. I am just an ordinary fan, however I still think that players who pull on the claret and Amber should know they are privileged to do so.

 

I'm a bit thick I suppose but all the stuff I've seen from McCartan seems to be the standard "pleased to be here " blah blah blah aimed at his Lincoln situation and a bunch of stuff taking the piss out of people trolling him. I expect the sack of spuds comment is exactly that, aimed at people giving him sh*t online suggesting he is worthless.
I haven't seen anything where he says he doesn't want to be at VP. As for the disruptive character stuff, any of us lot actually know the guy or have reliable stuff to suggest that it may be true (apart from winding up internet trolls)?
For what its worth, I think the "get him off the payroll to free up money for others coming in" argument makes sense but if he comes back, he has to get his head down, get into the team and make himself a starter.

 

I don't get the obsession with McCartan. He didn't have the personality or talent to play for a 'big league 1 club' so he went on loan to Lincoln. He's had a decent year individually and they've had a superb year collectively. I can only think that there's an element of envy creeping in that he hasn't been part of the shit show we've had to endure. Leave him to it. Let him move on - we certainly need to.

 

If they are willing to pay a fee, even a nominal one, then great, but sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on.

 

There are a couple of issues that need to be decided here.

Firstly do we ask a fee?
Secondly do Lincoln want him, and if so pay a fee
Thirdly will he take a pay cut.

Now the third one could be the important one if he is to leave.

From my understanding we are covering part of his wage. If he was to leave that would stop. That would save us about £100k next season, £2k a week. If he returns and doesn’t play it would cost us even more in wages.

Lincoln could only sign him if he drops into their wage structure which apparently he currently sits outside of. That would mean him accepting less money. If he is not willing to do that the only way for us to sell him would be to pay him off, so not only might we not get a fee we might actually have to pay him to leave

 

I agree he's intimated he prefers Lincoln and I get all the loved bit, but the situation next season will be very different from the one he left.
I think Bowyer will have a word, hear his side of the story and make a decision on what he hears, no point in keeping a player who does not want to play for the club.

 

That's if Lincoln want him to stay, they might deem him not good enough for league 1 and send him back.

 

Let them have him. Always seemed to have an attitude problem. Imagine what he'd be like after this.

 

He isn't good enough for league 1 and Bradford City is a too bigger club for him.

Hopefully, Lincoln will buy him though.

 

But he is not worth a fee. The fact we paid a fee for him is part of the madness that has been happening round VP.

 

100% agree and said something similar yesterday on another thread. Bowyer is looking at a complete clear out over the summer, fresh faces and players that actually want to be here. The last thing we need is to bring into that equation is someone who clearly does not.

 

Why would Bowyer want to add a player that doesn't want to be here to his dressing room full of new, enthusiastic players that do?

 

Lincoln are in the driving seat with this one. Bradford are stuck with a player who clearly doesn't want to play for them and Lincoln can look elsewhere if needed. If Lincoln really are that desperate for him i guess the best Bradford would get would be a token gesture of a transfer fee.
