To be fair I think it goes much much deeper than that

For instance, the Cowleys have come out and said the main reason they chose Colchester last week was down to meeting the owner - his enthusiasm, passion, drive and aim/future plan. Our lack of this is the reason they turned us down. It is this somewhat personal touch that mean we fail season after season, despite investment/budgets/big name managers.

Until experienced people are running this club again - who have a genuine interest in the club - then we’ll remain in the doldrums forever. Their lack of ambition only means that it is ultimately us fans that suffer

I am honestly unsure right now. I am sick to death of seeing us get beaten easily at home. I don't attend away games anymore so only have home games to "enjoy" live. Ifollow is alright but not quite the same as being there.

We just do not seem to have a plan that we are sticking with. RS has to now be looking at his tenure and perhaps looking to let someone else steer the rudderless ship that is Bradford City. Whilst we have become more or less a self serving club in terms of raising finances we don't half spaff it away with apparent ease. We are never going to be promoted out of this league with the way players are recruited.

We need to drop this big club syndrome that is a millstone around our neck and just focus on being a proper football club. Soon attendances will wane again and despite 16,500 being officially announced we won't be touching 10K at games. Its tiresome hearing new signings banging on about how big the support is. It has NOT helped us one bit over the last 10 years in the league. Here we are sat mid table in the shittest of leagues with 16,500 poor souls witnessing that trash yesterday. When their third went in I haven't seen the ground empty as fast for a long time.

I've watched City of and on since the mid fifties when I used to go with my dad, who used to lift me over the turnstiles down Burlington Terrace, I was only five. I've had a season ticket since I retired in 2015, I am now 74. Usually on a match day I leave home a good one hour and forty five minutes to secure a parking space within a reasonable walking distance of the ground. I usually arrive back home around five thirty . I'm sure there are lots of other supporters who travel further and show a lot more commitment to support City then I do but my commitment, and I'm sure many others, is starting to wear a bit thin.
Personally I think we need someone above Sparks who has been around in football and has some serious connections, someone that can perhaps put a stop to wasting money on long contracts, injury prone players and Derbyshire type signings

We don’t even get a nice comfortable 3-0 win occasionally, even our irregular home wins are scrappy 1-0 wins. I started going in the mid 60s and even if we were having a crap season which was quite often especially in the 1970s we’d still enjoy a few 2 or 3nil home win to lighten the gloom. Just doesn’t happen nowadays.

16k to 18k fans turn up every home match. For what?

Rupp and Sparks need to understand we can’t be treated as mugs. Rupp turns up about 2-5 games a season if that and he lives in Germany.

Sparks should do the right thing and step down as CEO and Rupp should sell up. Both won’t be they expect us to rock up and do what we do each week.

Nothing will change unless we vote with our feet. Something for everyone to think about.!

No mate I was referring to the Cowleys :)

Anyway, shock horror Park defending the hierarchy again I see. It really doesn't matter what spin you try put on it, they turned US down. I have had several interviews in my lifetime and declined a 2nd interview, which is ME turning THEM down. In fact I think saying "thanks but no thanks" for a final interview looks even worse on us, as they saw enough the first interview to make a decision not to accept if offered the job. Probably thought working under Sparks & Gent would be like working for the chuckle brothers, and couldn't answer half of the questions the Cowleys asked them, for instance "what is your 3 year plan" or "why have you been in L2 for so long"

To some extent that's applicable. But if the team was challenging for promotion and playing exciting, entertaining football. I doubt that even the dodgy weather would have kept people at home.

I bet we can all remember games where the weather's been atrocious at VP. But when it's been a big game or they're doing well, people will turn out regardless.

Last night looked like complete apathy to me, those that didn't use their ticket knew they wouldn't be missing much. And that's a very dangerous situation for our 'proud custodian' and his CEO. Many won't protest or kick up a fuss about what's happening, but they will vote with their feet and wallet when ST's are up for renewal.

Colchester are on their 3rd permanent manager this season, not sure they should be held up as the shining light of how to run a football club. The Cowley boys are just passing through using Colchester as a stepping stone to a bigger club and it’s close to where they live. They’ll have left within a year.

I'd pay it but only if the people in charge of the club were trustworthy football people. A lot will moan but its the going rate. The club would still offer the pay monthly option and 30 quid or so a month isn't too bad. There will always be someone who says they can't afford it but should this club be held back because of it? No

As much as I agree with your post RC, unfortunately it isn't as easy as that for some of us. As piss poor and frustrating as it is, it is still a few hours spent with my lad which to me is invaluable. But i'd certainly never judge a fellow supporter for boycotting games at the moment, it is a real struggle even to the die hards :pensive:

Look at the crowd last night which starts to speak volumes :( i will be actually be amazed between now and the end of the season if we hit a gate of over 10k.................. your talking months of thousands of people finding better things to do.
This club is damaged and sadly till the person who was jnvolved in the start of this decline is gone then this will continue to go on.

Folk will still go and i aint gonna pull them up but i simply refuse to give a penny to a man who aint gonna match thousands of peoples support of this club and a CEO who thinks he doing a good job.

6 years of shite thousands on the verge of walking away so well done Rupp and Sparks you must be fooking proud

Me and the wife were discussing this the other day, neither of us are that bothered at the minute about renewing. I think we've been to maybe 2 home games since early October? We got a puppy and stayed with most weekends but since we've just not really been itching to go. We probably will renew through force of habit, rather than want.

The dreadful Hughes football made me mentally write the season off, the length of time to hire a replacement worried me, the amount of stories around managers turning us down gave me little hope in the ownership/control structure, and the plans (or lack there of) for this window makes me wonder why bother?

I totally wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't renew due to the football on show. Results are results but in this day and age when you can watch top tier football from your mobile phone on a Saturday, you need to entertain people for 2 hours in your stadium. And the 23/24 football is anything but entertaining.

We need a strong window and a statement to push on the rest of the season and give hope for the next. But the plan is seemingly get 7 or 8 out and then we can bring in 3 or 4..... but a) can we realistically see that many of our dross being picked up? And b) will our 3 or 4 targets still be available by the time the budget and squad space are freed up? Will we be on 3rd or 4th choice LWB for example by then because others moved earlier? They really need a splash January to build some faith.

Had a little bit of new manager bounce but yesterday summed up the recent past at home perfectly.
    Go behind early ✅
Midfield struggle with pacy opponents ✅
Lack of any real quality in most areas✅
    “Game management” non-existent ✅
Opposition score late to nick points✅

Why are we so surprised that it keeps happening?

I admire reading how far some fans travel to home games, you really are top fans.

I don't think I would have the appetite to travel so far these days.

Its becoming a chore travelling from 3 miles or so up the road!

Season after season of false promises, underachieving and basic bullshit from Sparks is really starting to take its toll on a lot of fans, even the die hards. I draw a lot of parallels with the council…clueless CEO, no direction, no money, countless failures year on year. I have always said summat has to change, even on the law of averages - but it simply never does

    Extremely frustrating times indeed

Yes, that's the weak link in the approach. And it potentially goes against Rupp's own personal vision of not having to dip into his own pockets to help the club he owns.

I could always say that there is no gain without pain or he has to speculate to accumulate or the owner has to balance risk against reward or some other cliché. But until his own mindset changes and he continues to expect somebody to pay over the odds for a Div 2 club, we'll continue to tread water at best whilst awaiting the arrival of the next manager.

Clubs compete in this division on all sorts of levels. Whether that's the quality of the squad, the manager, the tactics and so on and particularly on the playing budget. Any manager worth his salt would prefer a bigger budget to a smaller one. Our budget has remained static over the past few years and despite our crowds, other clubs have overtaken us where it matters; on the pitch and in the league table. Other clubs for whatever reason, put more money into their playing budget. Some clubs (and that's plural) according to Sparks have playing budgets almost 50% more than ours and at any level of pro football that's a serious advantage for those clubs. Without competing at that level, we will remain second best on the pitch.

I remain convinced that our vision, if we even had one, as welcomed by Rupp and his CEO is to simply balance the books rather than investing in the future of the club, particularly the playing side. Meanwhile they wait for somebody to come in and buy us at an inflated price. Their approach has to change if we are ever to get out of the khazi league. That's one of the reasons why I support the new Independent Supporters Group. They want to change things for the better and unlike some others, not accept the status quo.
