Scott Banks

Even if he doesn't get to that level there's every chance he could be a Championship player, he will be on low wages so he's low risk for Palace and worth keeping to see how he develops then if he's only a Championship player they can sell him.

 

He went to Norwich while they were in the Premier League and was 19 years old. Banks is 21 and isnt anywhere near the level needed to play for Crystal Palace. I think people forget how big the jump in quality is.
Hes had a good second half of the season for us but to suggest he would get a look in at Palace when they have players like Zaha, Olise and Eze is hilarious.

 

What Championship club do you think will take him? Again the jump in quality from our level to even the Championship is massive. We have a good chance of signing him imo.

Look at Tyreik Wright. We all held him up on a pedestal like how some of you are doing with Banks and yet he couldn’t get a sniff at Plymouth. Couldn’t even make the bench.

 

I think Palace will want him tested at a higher level probably league one. I would take Gordon if he became available

 

I'm not saying he will get a look in at Palace. You just never know though.
Harry Kane couldn't get in Spurs U'14's and they didn't think he would make it.

Players develop differently. Vardy is another obvious one. Knocking around the non-league for years.

 

The natural progression for Banks and Palace is a loan to a league 1 club next season and see how he fares.Has shown good promise for us, has the technique and ball control to play higher, decision making still at league 2 level but will benefit from having better players around him..

 

Agreed but its very rare. Most players by 21 will be in and around the first team squads if they were thought to be good enough. Unfortunately not many young lads get given the chance as the risks are too high.

I like Banks and I think he enjoyed it here. I would be going all out to try and sign him again. Maybe a league 1 club will come in for him but he has time on his side. The only clubs I could see him joining are the likes of Burton or Cheltenham. I dont see the lad getting much more from playing there than he would with us.

 

He’s right, he won’t. Compare him to Palace’s other wide right player Olise and think again . He’s on a different planet compared to Scott Banks . If we had been promoted then I think we would have him another season, I doubt it now VM!

 

There’s no point in sending him on loan to a club who are likely to be fighting relegation where the tactics might be to stifle the opposition rather than attack.
He’d be better off going somewhere like Peterborough or even Doncaster now that Grant McCAnn is there.

 

I think the odds are with you but I definitely wouldn't rule anything out. He's at a PL club at the minute for a reason, who's to say another year of senior football higher up wouldn't see him blossom?

 

And yet Smallwood made 40 odd appearances in the Championship the year before struggling at league 2 level.

Stranger things have happened, I think that's all they are trying to say.

 

Thats very true. Smallwood doesnt look at all out of place in League 2.

 

And yet when he first came he looked a class above. Getting forward, biting into tackles, having shots, scoring even. Something went very wrong with him. Love to know what it was, though I have an idea.

 

Scott Banks I'm sure will go on to have an excellent career in the game. He may not make Premier League but I do see him holding his own at Championship level in a couple of years. He seems to have a good attitude and no little talent. Very raw and has lots to improve on, but he'll have benefited from the season he's just had.
Had we gone up, I'd have been confident that Palace would have loaned him back at least till Jan, but as has been suggested I think they will want to see him play at a higher level next season

Nothing at all. I just wonder if he became disillusioned with our playing style.

 

I think a lot of the players did. You could see from their body language during games and the interactions between themselves that they weren’t always happy. Lewis and the defence often seemed frustrated with the fact that they were being asked to constantly pass it around the back until a ball on to the midfield became available.

 

And playing out of position.

He looked like a fish out of water being hung out to dry in the left.

 

That could well have taken a long time
It usually ended where we lost the ball and the opposition scored

 

Palace given him a 1yr extension to see how he gets on in league one next season.

Carlisle defeat ended any chances of him playing for us next season.
