Rather than simply grabbing R&R's money and running off, they could quite simply have taken a leaf out of the sellers of Pompey who would only sell to somebody who would take their club forward (as JR and ML also promised). But rather than rely on fine words, the former Pompey owners included specific commitments in the purchase agreement to ensure that it would happen.

The 'fit and proper persons' test as you incorrectly call it, is there to weed out anybody who has been convicted of certain criminal acts, nothing more, nothing less. It has nothing to do with whether new owners have the capability and finances to run a football club. That is down to the sellers so long as they genuinely want the club to progress and devleop.

Put something in the contract to see if they really wanted to take the club forward.

They sold out.. didn't care one jot about you! Why you defend them I will never know.

Credit to Rhodes for coming back but now fans are starting to realise it was the Edin and Rupp show all along and Rhodes ideas are for 2010.

Don't tell me Rhodes had the best interest for the club, it was for himself and his back pocket!

Indeed. And in order to buy the club, Esner had to commit to making the enhancements to the ground and investing extra in the playing budget to firstly gain promotion to Div 1 and provisionally to the Championship. It was a smart move by the previous owners.

We can only dream about anything similar.

That's all fair comment I was not aware the seller could put clauses into the buyers contract.

These (demands for want of phrase) were made by the fans consortium that had taken over the club after administration, Which the disney guy had bought from , without this agreement they were not willing to move forward with a deal.

The club was owned by the Supporters Trust and a small group (around 10 from memory) of individual wealthy supporters. No one group or party had a majority shareholding which meant they all had to agree on the way forward. I think they got it about right. It was all well documented in a public sale prospectus where the conditions of purchase were fully articulated. Eisner wasn't the only person interested in buying Pompey but ultimately, he was the successful one.

Had we done something similar, I'm not convinced R&R would have paid more than they did but whatever additional commitments they made would have been set aside in some way. The important thing for ML&JR is that they would have received less in their own pockets. And that might have been an issue for them!

The fit and proper persons test is not and should never be a replacement for due diligence done by the selling party. It's literally just a criminal background check. The fact is they sold to the walter mitty of walter mitties and a surprisingly naïve multimillionaire who doesn't give a massive shit about football. How any of that didn't surface in the due diligence process is beyond me except to think it wasn't carried out properly. Rhodes and Lawn aren't poor in comparison to the average city fan and I highly doubt they made their money by being so dim.

As I've just posted I'm so sad to see what Bradford City has become, we're just a complete joke at this point. I used to love this club so much but it's genuinely getting to the point where I'm starting to not care what happens anymore, even if we went out of business. Like how much more shit should we as supporters be forced to accept.

I think I now understand better @Dennis@Dennis has cover the sale and what the seller could have put into the contract going forward.
After reading his and others take on the sale of the club it does look like both Julian & Mark did not do what they could with regards protecting the club, making it look very much like they just wanted the money and run.
Let's hope it's down to their lack of knowledge with regards that they could have made sure the new oners took responsibility for both football and non football matters.

I think they would have taken legal advice, it is inconceivable to me that they would not have taken good professional advice. I have come to the conclusion that they both wanted to leave and take the money and didn’t want to put anything in the selling contract that could have delayed or indeed stopped the sale.

After reading some of the replies certainly Dennis's I was not aware the sellers could put specific terms into the selling contract, so as I've said to @Biker@Biker it is difficult to defend what very much looks like your comment above.

They can put in promises of change and investment in the future but if not done there is little that can be done to enforce it, Kraft when purchasing Cadbury promised to keep production in the UK and then moved it abroad with no repercussions

If you can seriously countenance going out of business may I say with respect you’re not really a supporter. City have been in far worse positions. We’re not going down and we’re not insolvent. We’re got at least 15000 people who care enough to buy season tickets. To use the modernism - get real.

    Well said Broncs!

I am not happy about where we are but Bowyer would be torn apart in here if he had not parked the bus Tuesday night

Given he early dismissal a point is a good outcome.
