Well having dug yourself in to a hole in your first decision lets see which are your options, Of course against the odds and history McCall may well turn us round in to a roaring success, Extremely unlikely but possible,

That leaves you with two options,
1, Back him as he takes the club in to non league and the belief he can get us back in the football league.

2 sack him as it becomes obvious he will take us in to non league even though you have given him a new contract,

That is some hole you may have dug for yourself and lets hope the supporters stay with you and the club

Why has he dug himself in a hole? he has removed the headache of recruiting a new manager.

Well a good start not only beaten but played off the pitch by an average Oldham team. Your choice of backing McCall looking stark,

Honestly you are acting like you were born yesterday.

Ryan, McCall and Rhodes were all in this together. This wasn't a Ryan decision to keep him. They all played Rupp like a fiddle and got their reward.

The headache is still there because we all know McCall isn't good enough the only thing is now McCall gets to the end of the season but doesn't mean he gets next season.

If it was Ryan's decision to extend McCall's contract then its a major mistake.

McCall will not be sacked by the present regime, he will though almost certainly walk away when it all goes wrong. The problem is what state will the club be in when he does decide to go. Could be too late if where in a hopeless position when it happens.

Honestly, having had the weekend to reflect on things, giving Macca and Kenny an extension really was an abysmal play.

I cannot think of a single upside to that decision.

My mind remains boggled, and I've tried to look at this from every which way. Someone with a better imagination is going to have to fill me in on how it made sense?

The only thing I may have done differently if I was Ryan’ was to wait until the end of this season before I became the CEO. Things would have been clearer then. Wait five months and the club would either sink or survive. If we had gone down he wouldn’t have been responsible, if we survived, he would have a fresh start for a season and be able to be more involved. He is stuck with the squad we now have.

My mind is still boggled too Jon.

If he thought McCall deserved longer to turn this mess around, then fair enough. But there was still no need to extend his contract right now, there is hardly going to be a queue of clubs tempting him away in the summer.

    It just doesn't make sense

I can only think that they are trying to steady the rapidly sinking ship, by trying to enforce a bit of stability. New CEO comes in, wants to be seen as doing the right thing, and doesn't want his first job to be handing Stuarts cards to him. Sends a clear message of trust and support to the manager and his coach.

However! A clearer message would have been to NOT do that, but instead, look at the results, listen to the fans, and to trust and support the manager and his coach by backing them in the transfer window.

Unfortunately what it now looks like, is that Sparks is just another "Ruppet", and is doing something he really shouldn't be doing, just to look good in the eyes of our esteemed leader.

    Agree.

The closest thing I could think of is that it suggests to the players he isn’t on the verge of leaving and was thus intended to give them a kick up the backside.

But it will take more than that to keep us up.

Some influential people on the socials have been going about stability, all the clubs doing well have had a manager a long time according to them. They might have missed the points that you need the back up for the manager and you need a good manager. Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s why McCall got the deal.

Strikes me that an option would have been to offer McCall a ‘rolling contract’ beyond his current one.

Both parties could then end it, if appropriate.

According to this article, ‘...In League Two, the average manager’s annual income is 79,462 pounds, with the lowest-paid manager in the Football League receiving 45,000’. https://www.reuters.com/article/health-coronavirus-soccer-england-idUSL5N2CG5Y3

Can anyone else think of a manager at another club rewarded for poor performance like Stuart?

I seem to remember that Trevor Cherry was on a rolling six month contract, its a good way to please both parties as long as the manager isn't greedy.

I’m certainly looking forward to hearing the interviewers questions post match. Especially if (when) we lose.

What is Ryan's experience or expertise in a role like CEO of a football club? I can't find any stand out attributes.

We were calling out for a David Baldwin type appointment, and we got the office junior.

Time might prove me wrong but this all wreaks of amateur hour, lurching from disaster to disaster.

Looking at Ryan's history he appears to have been media manager at the Bulls whilst Omar Khan and Marc Green were running the club, which correct me if I am wrong had plenty of smoke and mirrors about how bad the situation really was there at the time.
