From a £800,000 loss the previous season to break even this season isn't a bad start, fans will read into his recent interview as they may I thought it was an honest review of the last 18 months or so, seems there is plenty going on behind the scenes that we fans know little about.

We need to think VERY carefully before entering into another round of managerial change.
Personally, I don't think we're anywhere near that point yet. But as we approach January there needs to be a proper, frank analysis of the season so far and Hughes needs to be challenged, constructively, by Sparks and Rupp as to the playing style and levels of both results and performance. It's not working, so if Hughes is adamantly wedded to this approach he needs to argue a strong case as to why its worth persevering with, amd why we shouldn't adapt. There may need to be a level of compromise. And once everyone is aligned, it's the job of Sparks and Rupp to make the changes to the squad to improve our fortunes. Personally, if we're going to stick with this way of doing things then we need a much better and more technically gifted midfielder and a couple of better forwards. We're stocked on numbers but still short on quality in certain areas. And whilst Cooks numbers look good, he doesn't work as a lone striker in terms of how it impacts on wider team performanceStop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Have to say what a great job Sparks has done since taking over as CEO. The fanbase, marketing, squad, backroom staff, atmosphere and general feel about the club have improved massively. After a somewhat sticky start and the need to be seen and heard almost everyday, he's taken himself out of the limelight and gone about his business in the background. Still work to do but his proclamations about putting this club back on the right path, look to be coming through. Hopefully we'll get over the line this time. Considering the amount of vile abuse he got, I hope he's enjoying the fruits of his labour (so far). Long may it continue.

The thing I liked most about his appointment was it was a club appointment, and that meant it didn't matter if the incoming manager wanted to work with him or not - the incoming manager simply had no choice.
Hand over your list of targets/requirements, and let Turnbull do his job.
Ryan Sparks has shown such weak leadership that unless you have a name, you don't get any support.
We saw this with Trueman and Sellers in the position as manager EVEN AFTER they got an 18 month contract, and we duly saw it with Turnbull. We've seen it with endless numbers of players, too, most recently Canavan .
The reason I say I don't want someone who bounces from rubbish club to rubbish club (you act like I'm pretending we're good, btw) is everything is so damn transient.
It feels like Mark Hughes might just pack a bit of punch, and be able to stay in place a bit longer, and I hope that's the case. Then again, some thought that Adams had been given full control and would be harder to depose.
Wrong.
It's clear we never replaced Turnbull despite signing three scouts, given those scouts still appear to be in place and yet we STILL want a HoR.
Forgive me for hoping that new HoR is a big deal. He (or she) needs to be. The lack of expertise and leadership at the club has hamstrung us immensely. Time to move upwards, and a signing akin to Turnbull - as has been proven - is not enough to make a difference.
Hope that clarifies my position so it's not seen as simply an attack on Lee.vanginger, bantamdave41, WilsdenBantam and 3 others like this. -

What we don’t need is the ‘Rupp out’ murmurs carrying on in the background. We have to all buy into what Hughes is trying to achieve and stop any sort of distraction.
I’m sure Ryan will learn his lesson from last season and take more of a back seat this time.
Especially at home, that home record must improve if we are to win promotion.
If we fail next season then, yes, fan unrest will be justified, but let’s not kill our chance before we’ve started.Bantam75, Bantam Boy, Kevin1954 and 3 others like this. -

Defensive, counter attacking football.
Sparks should have known all of that when he signed him, but I just don't think Ryan knows anything about football.vanginger, Briggus, bantam2708 and 3 others like this. -

Advertising for a manager was a stroke of genius (well, it beat the nonsense Sparks pulled when he made the behind-closed-doors appointment of Adams...), and then bothering to speak to a blindingly obvious stand out surprise candidate, well... *chef's kiss*
What's entirely predictable is, come January if we're 15th instead of at least 5th, the usual pre-season optimists will be among the most frustrated members of the fanbase.
As soon as we played the last game of the season, opinions of Sparks have improved tenfold and the signing of obvious squad members is all fresh and new again. I don't know why people have these wild mood swings. I left the forum for a bit at the start of last season because I was getting abuse (abuse, not criticism) from certain incompetent douchebags with multiple usernames for not singing from the correct hymn sheet.
Guess who ended up supporting the sacking of Adams come February
Them, not me.
Anyway, this season is looking distinctly more positive to me, and like people know what they're doing this time around. What we can't do is pretend Sparks didn't fall on his feet in bringing Hughes in. Hughes taking over is the best thing that's happened to this club in years, particularly after Sparks bumbled from debacle to debacle.
He gets credit where it's due, but he's not getting it for 'attracting' an out-of-work, re-energised Mark Hughes.Jay, Smartmart, bantamdave41 and 3 others like this. -
The jury is very much still out. Hughes is a coup, and he must have liked what he heard when his application was discussed. But Sparks talks a good game; the big question - and its the one to be answered this summer - is whether the vision that’s been sold will be brought into reality with how Hughes is backed.

During Parky’s time we finished each season higher than the year before that’s progress. We definitely have made big strides off the field if only we can replicate it on it. If Hughes fails us I don’t know where we will turn next

That would change very little imo. Our future as a viable club rests with Rupp selling the club to somebody who can and will take the club forward rather than Rupp who seems intent on allowing the club to tread water whilst he earns a small return on his investment. Replace Rupp with a more hands-on and ambitious owner and Sparks will be replaced. But the first priority is to encourage Rupp to sell the club. Hit him where it hurts, in his pocket.vanginger, Interested Bystander, JonButterfield and 2 others like this.
